Tonight legendary Southern rockers the Allman Brothers Band will be taking on a two-night stint at the Greek Theatre with the Doobie Brothers. Australian rock outfit Youth Group (LAist Interview) are poised to headline the Troubadour with locals Nico Stai and Useless Keys in tow. And, lastly, LA-based indie rock duo Avi Buffalo (LAist Interview) will be taking on the penultimate night of their month-long residency at the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hollywood Palladium to catch Portland-based indie rock maestros the Decemberists. Stillwater, Oklahoma's Other Lives are slated to kick things off.

Let it never be said that Youth Group are sissies. After enduring a fourteen hour flight from Sydney to LA, through untold horrors otherwise known as "customs" and "baggage claim," the Australian band still managed to put up with my meeting them at the Custom Inn Suites in Hollywood for our interview. If our places were reversed, I would have been a howling, drooling grump, refusing to talk to anyone as I crawled back to my room to sleep off the jet lag. But lo, Youth Group were bright and cheerful; a little slap-happy perhaps, but more than game for a stop at the Starbucks at the corner of Franklin and Highland to talk music. Bless them.

There are really only two major music festivals that truly matter, like really matter: Coachella and South by Southwest. The former happens over two three days in the desert near Palm Springs, the latter rages for about a week on the dusty streets of Austin, Texas. SXSW features over 1,000 bands. You buy a wristband and you wander from bar to bar, club to club, alleyway to patio and you get to see some...

We have many fond memories from Coachellas past, but right now we're totally jealous of that Lollapalooza lineup. Sunday tickets are sold out. You'll either have to buy a two-day pass or take your chances in the secondary market.
