Yesterday we posted our review and set list from Perry Farrell's Rock N Roll Birthday Bash. Here are a few videos the LAist also caught in between drinks:

Man, downtown is kickass. Yeah, you've seen the great theatre and the wonderful eats and the art walk, but you've probably also thought about the homeless population, or the proclivity for violence in the face of an economic abyss. And while all of these things, in their own way, are true about downtown, things like the Grammy Museum are really helping to elevate the standard while keeping an eye on what’s important in their neighborhood.
In conjunction with the second annual LA Art Weekend, Postopolis! begins tonight at the Standard Downtown. It’s a live, five-day blogathon with six host bloggers (ArchDaily/Plataforma Arquitectura, BLDGBLOG, City of Sound, Subtopia, Mudd Up!, We Make Money Not Art) who’ve invited 40+ participants from a multitude of fields including architecture, urban planning, geology, defense, publishing, game design, artistic practice, oceanography, music, politics and many others to give brief presentations, each followed by a public discussion. Here’s the full schedule.
My first thought when Boots Riley took the stage was, "Holy crap! Shaft has gone on tour with Kurt Cobain." Sporting an Afro, leather overcoat with a fur collar, and some impressive sideburns, he took the stage at the El Rey accompanied by a young man with long blond hair, a green winter jacket, and who frankly looked quiet stoned. If you look at the photo gallery below, you'll see that first impression was warranted.
Tonight pop star/actress Mandy Moore will be performing at the Troubadour with K.D. Lang. Tom Morello and the Nightwatchman are slated to rock out at the El Rey Theatre. And, lastly, One Trick Pony will be playing Spaceland with a slew of other great local indie acts. But we suggest heading over to the Gibson Amphitheatre for Power 106's Cali Christmas Bash. We may have hated on Kanye West's latest, but that won't stop us from experiencing the theatrics.
Powerman 5000, The End of Silence, My Sweet Revolt, Amprage @ Whisky
Day 5 of the Writer's Strike was by far the most powerful. After being spread at various lots and productions throughout Los Angeles, all 3000+ members united in front of Fox Studios for a rally and march greater than any seen in the week old strike. They brought some help as well, with a mini performance from Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello who sang a "union song" and was then joined by RATM...
We* have just returned from the front lines of the of the cutthroat video gaming industry (okay, maybe it was just the GameStop at the Burbank mall) and I'm proud to report we have arrived home in triumph, bearing before us the brand new Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. It's here, and yes, it rocks.

- We get a lot of press releases. We get lots of music. We got lots of invites. And lately we have been getting a lot of eCards. We appreciate all of it, but what we most appreciate is when something rules. Not only does Ruby Isle's version of the classic Sonic Youth tune, "Teenage Riot" rule, but so does the bio that describes the band (after the jump). - Snoop Dogg is getting...

The Police aren't the only band to reunite and tour in 2007, and though their twenty-three year hiatus is the longest of the bunch, there is much more nostalgia to be had.... Rage Against The Machine, everyone's favorite rightously angry band, is reuniting to close this year's Coachella festival, which, fingers crossed, will bring about a tour. All four members -- Zack De La Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk -- will...

- From the mouths of babes. 12-year-old Dakota Fanning puts critics of her new film "Hounddog" on Time Out for bitching about a film that would have such a little girl like her get raped. "It's not really happening. It's a movie, and it's called acting." she said. - CNN - Brent Liles, former bass player of Social Distortion died yesterday when a truck hit him while he was riding his bicycle - LA Times...

We went to the pro-immigration rally that gathered at MacArthur Park today and skedaddled home to post some photos as the march got under way. How many were there, we're not sure. 15,000? 50,000? 200,000? We couldn't find a decent vantage point to count all the people in white t-shirts.
Wait, this is too fun to log off. Start below to see the webcast tragedy part 1. KCBS's web team is a disaster and it's getting worse.
