Early this morning the Cramps' lead singer Lux Interior passed away in Glendale due to a pre-existing heart condition. I was truly saddened to learn of his death, and had I not been in a room full of people I might have burst into tears.

And in case you haven’t heard, Roky walks among us this weekend. Tonight at 7:30 he's signing books and introducing a showing of his “all time favorite horror movie”, The Creature With The Atom Brain, at the Silent Movie Theater, and playing with his latest crew Evilhook Wildlife ET on Sunday night at the El Rey. Your Pre-Halloween weekend just got creepier, in person. We haven’t had a visit from this fellow since 1980, and the one before that was around 1966, so avoid him at your extreme peril.

Last month the American Cinematheque screened the ultra-rare early '80s classic "Urgh! A Music War", a collection of new wave and punk groups (Devo, The Cramps, X, Dead Kennedys, The Police, etc.) that were bubbling under and destined to make it big.

In 1978, psychobilly shock band The Cramps made the trek from New York City to sunny California, giving a free performance to the punk fans and patients alike at the Napa State Mental Hospital. One could only wonder how they were even permitted to do this, but from what can be seen in this lo-fi Target Video footage, the band seems to fit right in. Watching patients intermingle with members Lux Interior and Poison Ivy on stage shows just how raw and gritty rock and roll can be. They play this Sunday night at Sunset Junction...it's going to be craaaazy.
