Rarely do major film studios finance films as ambitious as Watchmen and with the middling success the film enjoyed, it's likely to become rarer still. Which is a damn, damn shame. Zach Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel has its share of issues, but he did manage to get Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach and Nite Owl (II) just about perfect which is a huge triumph. Watchmen is a film that deserved greater financial support from the public. Let's hope it finds that support on DVD. I mean seriously, do we want more films like Watchmen or more shit like Transformers 2: Revenge of Shit. Vote with your dollars, people!

Screening Alerts: Warner on Wednesdays

If you've got under a hundred dollars in your bank account, a date at the movies is usually out of the question. You stare longingly at LAist's film calendar every week: the Arclight's obviously a fortune, but even AMCs & revival houses run $15-$20 for two tickets. Add popcorn & soda? Ugh. This is news to no one, but if you're in the South Bay? WOW! The Warner Grand Theatre is looking out for you! Even if you're not - it's probably still cheaper to drive to San Pedro, plunk down a Hamilton and enjoy 2 tickets, 2 sodas & 2 popcorns (single tickets are a whopping $3 - cheaper than a DVD rental).

TV Junkie: How/Where To Watch The Inauguration

Did anyone have a chance to watch the "We Are One" inaugural gala on HBO yesterday? Some of it interesting, some of it schmaltzy, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Last Saturday Ford and "Band from TV" partnered together in Downtown LA to launch the Ford Flex with a charity scavenger hunt through that roamed throughout Los Angeles, raising money for various charities.

Cardinal Roger Mahoney revealed that he had been assaulted in July outside of Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral; the attacker was "enraged by the Catholic Church's sexual-abuse scandal within days of a record settlement with hundreds of victims." Karl Dorrell will not be coaching UCLA in its upcoming Las Vegas Bowl game. Defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker will coach in the interim. If the world weren't already all shook up by Jakob Lodwick's departure...

Blogwatching the Golden Globes (it's not liveblogging if it's tape-delayed, right?) We forgot to write down times, but trust us, this is (mostly) chronological. We blogged the red carpet, too.

We tuned in a little late to the E! pre-red carpet awards.

This year, the great and noble Mr. Blackwell (as far as we know, he has no proper first name) has decreed that the worst dressed woman from 2004 was none other than the lovely and talented Nicollette Sheridan. LAist treats this announcement with great disdain. Miss Sheridan rarely wears clothing in the first place, so how can she even qualify for such a dubious honor? The same can be said for one Paris Hilton, who frequently flaunts her "ladyflower" at pubic, er, public functions and therefore, by our standards, should not be eligible for this list.
