There weren't a lot of reasons to believe that the Bruins could go into Knoxville and beat Tennessee. They have only won five of their last 22 games away from Pasadena. They were only 3-7-2 on the road against SEC teams. They were too young. The crowd was too big. Tennessee was too angry.

This week the UCLA Bruins head east across the Mississippi to Knoxville to face some hungry Vols. After showing some early game jitters against San Diego State last week, the Bruins were able to right the ship and pull away in the end to a comfortable win. They won't have that luxury this week, as they will face a Vols team that is noted for their speedy defense.

Things like this just don't happen over in Westwood. Not in football anyway. A 27-24, " I-do-NOT-believe-what-I-just-saw" overtime victory? No way. Against a ranked SEC team? Nahhhh. Not when third string QB Kevin Craft is still learning his way around the UCLA campus much less his way around the UCLA playbook. A point made painfully clear in his FOUR INTERCEPTION "effort" in the first half. Not when the Bruins lost not one, not two, but THREE key starters; Seniors Logan Paulsen, Khalil Bell and Marcus Everett in the FIRST QUARTER! Bruin fans were more than ready to accept an "L" especially with the Tennessee Volunteers from the mighty SEC in town.

Singer and legend Issac Hayes was found by relatives unconscious next to a still-running treadmill this afternoon at his home in Tennessee today. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital in Memphis around 11 a.m. PST. Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for his theme song from "Shaft," was scheduled to headline at the Sunset Junction Music Festival in Silver Lake later this month.
