Hulu has joined the ranks of C-SPAN, Current, CNN, MySpace, and others in live-streaming the remaining presidential debates. So if NBC or Fox are your favorite broadcast networks, then you too can make the switch to an Internet-only lifestyle. In other news, TBS is renewing "My Boys" for another season (see/hear LAist's interviews with stars Jim Gaffigan and Jamie Kaler). 6:00pm Presidential Debate ABC, NBC, PBS, CBS, MSNBC, C-SPAN, Etc. - McCain vs. Obama at......

Tyler Perry, the man who Hollywood ignored for years before his sold-out plays were translated into the very successful series' "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns", opened his own 30 acre studios in Atlanta this weekend. Just wait for Mike Birbiglia to do the same thing. "SNL" has been on a tear with its politically-tinged sketches over the past several weeks and people seem to like it - ratings have shot up 49% over......

First, are you caught up? The adult son of an aging actress moves home to Beverly Hills from planet Kansas with his wife and two kids and they realize life here is, like, totally different. Bowling goes from uncool to cool, the Peach Pit serves Dr. Pepper by the case, and while drugs are generally bad, sex happens to be generally good. Look, Mom-robot (Lori Laughlin) walks and talks and takes pictures! | Photo by......

Yes we know that the stock market is crashing but what about that other local industry, the one with actors, and directors, and TV, and movies and stuff. Remember back at the end of June that the Screen Actors Guild didn't ratify the offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers? This means that business in Hollywood is going forward without a current contract between actors and producers which evidently isn't sitting well......

If McCain shows up for tonight's debate, make sure you have some friends over, plenty of beer, and make a drinking game out of the evening via these guidelines from Howcast. Chances are you will be plowed by 8pm. Some great shows this weekend, new Chris Rock special on HBO, and Sunday has at least 15 premieres (not kidding) - Dexter is back!! Here's the TV Junkie plan: Tonight - Obama/McCain Debate, "Real Time with......

"OMG, I'm totes dreaming, right Silver?" "No, Annie, you're wide awake..." | Photo: Michael Desmond / The CW Pinch me. No seriously, pinch me. I think I'm dreaming. First the good people of the CW give the new 90210 the nod for a full season, then they air an episode that is closer to cohesive storytelling than the previous ones. For reals? Granted, if you looked up "brilliant television" in the dictionary, last night's......

(Left) Shenae Grimes as Annie and Jessica Lowndes as Adrianna and (right) Jessica Walter as Tabitha on 90210 on The CW. Photos: Michael Desmond/The CW Instead of calling this week's 90210 "The Bubble" they should have called it "The Nap" because, frankly, it was a snoozer. Chock full of lots of talk and no action, it left me wondering if the residents of West Beverly Hills got too close to a field of our......

Tina Fey for President! OK, well, she should at least be a cabinet member. She has more communications experience and exposure than all of the contenders combined. The big question that is getting asked is, will Fey be back again as Sarah Palin on SNL? She might be back on as early as this upcoming Saturday according to some reports, depending upon how negotiations go. 8:00pm Top Gear BBC America - The guys review off-road......

Recession? What recession? NBC reportedly has almost sold out of ad spots for the 2009 Super Bowl and are selling the spots at prices at least 11% higher than last year. This weekend it's all about Barack Obama appearing on Saturday Night Live with Michael Phelps hosting the season premiere, then Sunday with "True Blood" (which is excellent!!), and another great episode of "Men Men". Tonight 8:00pm The 2008 Alma Awards ABC - Eva Longoria......

After the last couple weeks we could use some reefer madness. It's on tonight on IFC at 9:45pm. In somewhat related news, since the early days of his show was for stoned undergrads, David Letterman told Rolling Stone in their most recent issue, that he will be replaced by "The Daily Show's" Jon Stewart and that this has "already been taken care of". Is that really true or is he just riffing on something Craig......

We learned a lot about Los Angeles last night as viewers of the CW's semi-retooled teen sudser 90210. First, we learned that no one--and we mean triple underline, eye roll, like duh no one--does "family night" in this city. It's just way uncool. We also learned that kids who live in Beverly Hills have cheating fathers who overcompensate for their shortcomings by buying their teenage daughters (who look like they are 40 with Shirley Temple......

NBC networks will have ad placement from Google the Wall Street Journal reports. The deal will start on an experimental basis and will probably focus on local markets. The same online interface that gives Google AdWords advertisers to local print and radio media will now accommodate TV advertising. There's been a lot of resistance to allowing this access to Google so other networks will be watching this closely. The fear is that the auction system......

Last night had some great TV. What'd you watch: "True Blood", "Mad Men", "Entourage", the VMAs? Any comments? Tonight features a great "Top Gear", "Sarah Connor" is back, and Michael Phelps is on Leno, if you haven't had enough of him. We're kinda waiting for tomorrow's "Shield" episode though. 8:00pm Top Gear BBC America - Auto, James and Richard spend their night driving people home in their own cars after they've had too much to......

Once the 90210 premiere high had worn off, you might have felt it was safe to tune back in to the CW to catch the premiere of America's Next Top Model, now in its 11th cycle. Although the show had migrated back to its roots briefly last year by filming in New York, the cat fights and catwalks are back in Los Angeles, as 14 model wannabees try to out-fierce each other on their way......

Evanglelical totem, Sarah Palin, drew over 37 million viewers on Wednesday night, according to a report in the New York Times. This number is just shy of Obama’s record-setting 38.4 million viewers from last week's acceptance speech, dwarfed Joseph Biden's 13 million, and probably eclipsed John S. McCain's as well. Superstar or freakshow? This weekend HBO takes back Sunday nights with "True Blood" and "Entourage" - "Mad Men" we will always love ye. Tonight 8:00pm......

NY Times, the paper of record, says that Tivo has struck a deal with DirecTV so that subscribers will be able to record programs in HD on a new recorder made by Tivo. Other than the coolness factor, what should be noted is that Tivo will now be the recorder of choice for DirectTV, Comcast, and Cox - and people were saying Tivo was gonna disappear. TV tonight has more of McSame and the "Gong......

It's a good week so far for basic cable programming. "Mad Men" was great, as was last night's season premiere of "The Shield", and tonight we have the series premiere of "Sons of Anarchy" on FX. Somehow the show is becoming a darling of the critics (not this one, because, hint hint, FX hasn't sent me any previews). What we _do_ know about is the "Cocaine Diaries" on BBC America at 9:00pm - a really......

Eight years ago, loyal fans (because after 10 years on the air, that's all that were left) watched onetime geek David Silver marry longtime love Donna Martin on the series finale of Beverly Hills, 90210. The zip code was silenced, along with the eternal and rotating love triangles, the token bitch, the--gasp!--shocking family secrets, and the pulpy remains of what began as an edgy teen drama about fraternal twins from Minnesota trying to fit in......

Supposedly NBC is beating the ratings battle with this week's broadcast of the DNCC in Denver. We've listed PBS below because when you've got a commercial-free option, go for it. True we're not listing C-SPAN, but even we have standards. Despite posting a second quarter of profitability, Tivo's stock got pummeled yesterday because their profit did not meet analyst predictions. Despite competition from cable networks, the Tivo interface seems to be the best, so it......

You just can't keep an undead cable network down: TechCrunch has reported that The WB has been resurrected as TheWB.com, which launched today. The site will act as a source for all the TV shows that originated on The WB and has a number of interesting features. While one might argue with TechCrunch's assertion that TheWB.com is now a competitor to Hulu.com, they really do have a pretty awesome search engine that will hunt down......

It was great to get some late night TV back yesterday, one wonders when the networks will run out of Olympians to showcase - Conan was particularly biting regarding the parade of Olympians and the relative importance they are playing on TV as of late. What will get us out of our perchlorate-laced Olympics hangover? I don't think the season opener of "Deal or No Deal" is going to do it. NBC is getting some criticism for how poorly it monetized nbcolympics.com - essentially making only $0.004 per page served (of at least 1.2 billion pages), raking in a pissant $5.75 million, a tiny portion of the $1 billion it made from its Olympics rights. Obviously the web content was......

This weekend concludes NBC's broadcast of the XXIX Summer Olympics which has had some very enjoyable moments, not necessarily enjoyable because of NBC, but it's not like we had a lot of choice. Who knows what moments we missed in the countless events that were not broadcast, who knows what sports would have piqued the interest of Americans, if only they had exposure to them. In feedback to previous posts about the Olympics, commenters have......

Get ready for a crapload of Bogusky ads for Microsoft featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. Microsoft is spending about $300 million on the campaign, dwarfing Apple's Mac Guy / PC Guy ad spend. Seinfeld is a fantastic stand-up man and comedic actor (despite the godawful "B-Movie") but something about his attitude and lifestyle tell us that he's motivated more by the $10 million he's getting than by the much disparaged Vista operating system. 8:00pm......

NPR's Monday Morning Edition broadcast had quite a profile on Bonnie Hammer, head of the USA network. Listen to it and it'll become pretty obvious how they come up with such predictable milquetoast programming - that's the secret to their success, American's just eat that crap up. Sick of the Olympics yet or just the parts that NBC limits you to watching? Evidently for most Americans, not yet: 83% of US households have watched......

Pretty much an Olympics-only night tonight which looks like it will be focused on gymnastics (_still_) and now track. Left is a pic from the cycling men's sprint event which was very exciting but of course you won't be seeing any of it on NBC's prime time coverage. There's a chance to revisit a couple great shows from Sunday night: Comedy Central's Roast of Bob Saget was very good - the combination of some great......
