Possibly adding fuel to the city's grease fire to get rid of illegal street vendors, a Center for Disease Control report released today tells of an April incident in which pot brownies bought from a bogus church fundraiser ended up in a preschool teacher's lounge sickening several teachers.

LAUSD Board to Vote on School Choice Proposal Tomorrow

Many teachers, union leaders, students, and parents are crying foul as the LAUSD Board of Education is slated to vote tomorrow on the controversial School Choice proposal, which will allow non-profits, companies, and other interested parties to apply for control of troubled schools in the troubled district. The plan was authored and spearheaded by Board VP Yolie Flores Aguilar, and is being touted as a vital component of "reform" by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

CSU Students and Faculty Protest Possible Cuts, Fee Hikes

Tomorrow the California State University Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on proposed cuts within their operating budget that will have staff and faculty accepting twice-monthly furlough days, student services and class offerings reduced, enrollment caps and freezes implemented, and tuition raised 20 per cent--on top of the already approved 10 per cent increase voted on just two months ago.

500 Teachers Jobs Saved in LAUSD

Thousands of teachers are still going to lose their job at the end of the month, but at least 500 of them are saved. "Many of the teachers who were at risk of losing their jobs, as well as their supporters, camped out overnight at LAUSD headquarters in downtown L.A. to protest the proposed layoffs," says CBS2, who received the layoff information from LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines exclusively.

Just a few days after David Brewer's buyout of over a half million dollars, the LA Unified School District voted to give Ramon C. Cortines, the second man down the line, the job on a three-year contract. "We will not do things the same way," he said. "[The district will find] new ways of providing services to parents and working with teachers and working with administrators and working with community. We are the urban sprawl but it is time that we lock arms on behalf of our children. We must put the students first--not special interests. And so there will be change and change will be good for all of us."
