Smiley's 'State of the Black Union' Hears From Obama

Los Angeles-based PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley hosted the State of the Black Union today at the Convention Center. On this, the last day of Black History Month--in the same year an African-American man took the Presidential oath--thousands of people gathered to take part in the event that "was created to educate, enlighten and empower America by bringing people together and engaging them in thoughtful dialogue, leading the way to constructive action."

National Public Radio is cutting two daily shows and the majority of its Culver City-based NPR West staff as part of companywide layoffs and program cuts announced today.

Now that the writers' strike is over and it's full-steam ahead with the Oscars, you can bet that just about every TV channel is going to dogpile on the gala event. Yeah, the Grammys went ahead without interference but the Grammys are nothing compared to the Oscars. E! and CNN already have several shows lined up (look for Oscar host, Jon Stewart, on Larry King this Wednesday night) ready to tackle the exciting topics of: what will be in the gift bags? Who is Prince going to have perform at his Oscar bash? Where do the stars detox before and after the Oscars? etc.

I'm feeling it a little bit, yes, definitely am looking forward to the LOST premiere on Thursday night. Maybe make some chicken teriyaki and some tropical drinks, perhaps in a real coconut shell, yeah, that's the ticket.
