Suspects in Santa Monica Murder Identified

Santa Monica police today released the names of the four suspects allegedly involved in Tuesday night's murder. Patrick Dwight Birdsong Jr, 18; Norman Lovan Cole, 33; Sean Alex Mermer, 29; and a male juvenile were all booked on murder, attempted murder and "promoting of a street gang." Cole and Mermer were also charged with violating parole.

Four Suspects Arrested in Last Night's Murder in Santa Monica

A shooting that left one man dead last night in a Santa Monica park led to the arrest of multiple suspects. At around 8:52 p.m. last night, two suspects approached and began shooting at a group of four people in Virginia Park on Pico Boulevard, a few blocks from Santa Monica College. Three people escaped safely, but 20-year-old Richard Juarez was killed. The Santa Monica Police Department this afternoon announced that four suspects are in custody.

Bank Robbery Prompts Lockdown of Area within Sherman Oaks

A U.S. Bank branch at Woodman and Riverside in Sherman Oaks was robbed this afternoon at around 2 p.m. Now a perimeter has been set up as police look for two suspects who may be armed. "There are choppers everywhere," exclaimed Beth Oslander, a resident nearby who e-mailed LAist asking what was going on. A bomb squad was also called two the scene because of a suspicious package left at the bank by the two suspects, the LAPD says. Notre Dame High School and some other nearby buildings have been evacuated.

Four Arrested in Connection to Silver Lake-Echo Park Street Robberies*

After news about a slew of recent robberies caused concern in the Silver Lake and Echo Park communities, the LAPD today announced that they have arrested two suspects.

For the first time since a recent crime wave hit the Melrose shopping district area, arrests have been made. Streets robberies around the trendy Melrose shopping district have been occurring since the summer, prompting police to alert the community and public at large of the incidents. All that led to a formation of a stronger neighborhood watch that informs that a robbery involving four people with a sawed off shotgun.

Two 22-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion for setting 26 fires over a two-week period which began June 30 when 14 arson fires set throughout the night and into the early morning. Officials used a surveillance tape from an AM/PM mini-mart to identify the suspects.
