The most happening family-fun party at the Hollywood Bowl every year is the Sound of Music Sing-A-Along. If you've never been, it probably sounds a bit tame, but when you've got over 17,000 people singing do-re-me, waving cellphones during Edelweiss, popping those firework-like poppers during Maria's first kiss, hissing and booing at the Baroness and Nazis (complimented by laser pointers making red eyes), among other home-made sound effects, it's a time not to forget (don't forget the wine and cheese, it makes it all that much better).

Before there was You’ve Got Mail with Tom and Meg, there was The Shop Around the Corner (1940) with James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. It plays on the big screen tonight at 7:30 at the Egyptian. “Co-workers in a quaint Budapest shop clash in person but fall in love via anonymous letters in this charming classic set at Christmas time.”

Since Los Angeles isn't much of a Winter wonderland, one way we try to get into the Christmas spirit is by watching some wonderful concerts by our local artists and establishments. First off is Handel's , a three hour long masterpiece (luckily they have an intermission) with the Los Angeles Master Chorale at the Disney Hall. Luckily if you can't make it tonight, there is a repeat of the program on the 15th. The exciting thing about this concert though, is it's a sing-along! After this, you can mention on your resume or biography that you performed at the Disney Hall! Now isn't that something.

What's the holiday season without one of the most popular and famous works in Western choral literature -- George Frideric Handel's "Messiah"? And who doesn't like sing-alongs? (Remember our love for The Sound of Music Sing-A-Long at the Hollywood Bowl?) So many questions, so many... 18,000 screaming queens, pregnant nuns, and babies in lederhosen headed to the Hollywood Bowl last Saturday for the annual Sound Of Music Sing-A-Long. As expected, many snacks from Trader Joe's were eaten (might I recommend the Artichoke/Jalapeno dip), much swooning over Christopher Plummer took place, the Baroness got hissed at, Julie Andrews was cheered, and the unified masses belted in earnest (and amazingly in key) the tunes from Rodgers & Hammerstein's final masterpiece. How...

It's the weekend already? LAist throws enthusiastic support in the corner of the 4-day work week, and even though perhaps we didn't work as much this week, we're still going to play this weekend. Here are some things going on around town this lovely weekend.
