Tonight award-winning Nigerian musician Femi Kuti will be headlining the Hollywood Bowl with Santigold (LAist Review) and Raphael Saadiq (LAist Interview). Legendary punk rockers the Circle Jerks are poised to perform at the Key Club. And, lastly, Argentine folk songstress Juana Molina will be gracing the Make Music Pasadena Festival, which is set to take place at a variety of venues across Old Town Pasadena, with none other than Portland-based singer-songwriter Mirah. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Smell in Downtown to catch Portland-based electro-pop act Starfucker (LAist Review, #2). LAist favorites Captain Ahab, Atole and Halloween Swim Team are all slated to share the tiny stage.

The quarterly FLUX Screening Series at the Hammer Museum takes place tonight from 7-11 pm. The night will debut the World Premiere of PSST! 3, a collaborative new film project featuring shorts by a worldwide network of designers, directors, animators, and composers. PSST! founder and curator Bran Dougherty-Johnson will be in attendance to present the films. The evening will also include the premiere of two N.A.S.A. videos from its highly-anticipated new release The Spirit of Apollo; "Gifted" featuring Kayne West, Santogold and Lykke Li; and "A Volta," directed by Logan in collaboration with The Date Farmers. Check the website for the full screening schedule. A courtyard after-party will follow the film screenings. Admission is FREE, but reservations are highly suggested. Seating is first come, first served and an RSVP does not guarantee seating. (So get there early!)

December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them. The prompt was not limited to albums that came out in 2008.

While The Ting Tings were headlining the Wiltern Tuesday night, LAist left the multi-act show being mesmerized by Santogold, the funky lady-pro from Philly who stole the show.

Tonight LA is brimming with shows. We've got Weezer and that sorry excuse for a Blink 182 side project, Angel & Airwaves, performing at the Forum. Indie-pop duo the Ting Tings (LAist Review) and Brooklyn-based queen Santogold will be prancing around the cavernous confines of the Wiltern. NY-based avant-garde artist Antony and the Johnsons will be employing his otherworldly vibrato at the Walt Disney Hall in Downtown. Kentucky-based folk collective These United States are slated to headline the Silverlake Lounge. And, lastly, Seattle-based indie rock band the Dead Science will grace the Smell with local singer-songwriter Devon Williams in tow. But legendary English post-rockers the Wire will be making their triumphant return tonight at the Echoplex. San Diego's own garage rock heroes the Muslims will be opening the show, testing out songs from their forthcoming 2008 eponymous debut.

          

Finally, after all the hubub and debate of the quality of this year's Coachella lineup, the festival got underway Friday afternoon. Featuring Jack Johnson at the top of the bill, the day featured outstanding performances from the Raconteurs who proved that they aren't just Jack White's side project but rather a band that is developing their own sound and identity. The Verve, playing for the first time in nearly a decade sounded like they hadn't even missed a step. The day also featured standout performances from indie darlings Vampire Weekend as well as Tegan and Sara among others.
