Actors Ruben Ortiz and Carolina Phipps Full disclosure: my expectations for shows that are put up on “theater row” in Hollywood are low. For every one good play on that stretch of Santa Monica between Highland and Vine, there are ten painful renditions of “Proof,” five embarrassing actor showcases, and at least three productions by students taking classes in the Complex. So when I saw that my scheduled Friday evening out to see Jose......

Last weekend my dad accompanied me to see the Salvador Dali exhibit at LACMA (although, to avoid a $20 cover and massive crowds, I’d opt for the $17 weekday peek). Nonetheless, and as expected, the exhibit was absolutely astonishing. Upon leaving Dali we toured the famous Japanese Pavilion, which houses a good portion of LACMA’s permanent collection – art and artifacts spanning centuries, the scope of which is indescribable. We left the Pavilion awe-struck (once......

Saturday night's huge LACMA Halloween party sold out so quickly I had to buy my tickets on Ebay. Even then, 40 bucks a ticket for an entire night of drinking, hors d' ouvres, DJs, and entry into the Dali exhibition sounded too good to be true. It was definitely clear where corners were cut to make the event affordable. But I don't know anywhere you will find more creative costumes. Even WeHo has some......

Beginning this Sunday, LACMA will be rolling out Dali: Painting & Film. Regarded as one of the greatest surrealist artists of the 20th Century-the exhibit will examine the influence that cinema had on his works, and the contribution that he himself made to film. Featuring about 100 works from various collections, LACMA will also screen Dali’s many film projects, and host a series of lectures. Born in 1904 in Figueres, Spain; Dali discovered impressionism at......

"The Temptation of St. Anthony" (1946) via Wikipedia My apartment manager's LACMA newsletter arrived with my mail a few days ago (he used to live in my unit), and before I redelivered it, I caught sight of something that got me a little excited. Starting Oct. 14th, the museum is featuring Dali: Painting & Film, a special exhibit with the purpose of examining the relationship between Salvador Dali's films and his paintings. Dali is......

A new exhibit at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena highlights the role that animation and comic art has developed within the larger umbrella of fine art. "Comic Release: Negotiating Identity for a New Generation," opened June 27 and runs through August 15th. Historically, animation was not considered a fork on the path of the art world, but that has been changing steadily over the last 50 years. Collaborations such as those......
