Tonight In Rock: Janelle Monae, Saint Motel, Nico Stai, Birds & Batteries

Tonight local indie rock outfit Saint Motel's (LAist Interview) will be performing at the Roxy with none other than Rumspringa (LAist Review, #2) and Army Navy (LAist Interview, #2, Review). LA-based indie rock troubadour Nico Stai is poised to grace Spaceland. And, lastly, San Franciscan alt-rockers Birds & Batteries will be taking on the American Legion Post 206. But we strongly suggest heading over to Siren Studio to catch Kansas City-bred Grammy Award-nominated pop singer-songwriter Janelle Monae. LAist favorites, afro-centric indie pop act Fool's Gold are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Sunset Junction, Kings of Leon, Harvey Danger, The Matches

Tonight Nashville-bred alternative rockers Kings of Leon will be taking on the Forum with Athens' own garage rock revivalists the Whigs. Seattle's own alternative rock outfit Harvey Danger will be performing at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, Oakland-based pop punk act the Matches will be performing their final show as a band in Los Angeles to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. But we strongly suggest heading over to Sunset Junction to catch the 29th year of the annual street fair that we all hold dear to our hearts: the Sunset Junction Street Fair. Local favorites Miss Derringer, War Tapes, Warpaint, Rumspringa, Dengue Fever and Nico Vega will be performing today, as well as prominent, national acts like the Submarines, The Delta Spirit, Islands, Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, Sa-Ra, Sly & Robbie.

Tonight In Rock: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Robert Francis, Anya Marina, Spirit Animal

Tonight San Diegan singer-songwriter Anya Marina (LAist Review, #2) will be opening for Eric Hutchinson at the El Rey Theatre. LA-based singer-songwriter Robert Francis is poised to grace the Roxy with local blues-rock duo Rumpsringa (LAist Review, #2) in tow. And, lastly, Spirit Animal, otherwise known as the Gray Kid's latest full-fledged band endeavor, will be performing at Spaceland with locals Tigers Can Bite You and Robotanists. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into UCLA's Hammer Museum to catch LA-based indie rockers Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros (LAist Review). LAist favorites Eskimohunter are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Art Brut, White Rabbits, Chairlift, Busdriver

Tonight English/German indie rockers Art Brut will be continuing a three night stint at Spaceland with Rumspringa (LAist Review, #2) and Voxhaul Broadcast in tow. Brooklyn-based indie pop act Chairlift (LAist Review), who gained popularity through those (goddamn) lurid Apple commercials, are poised to grace the Echo with Fool's Gold front man Luke Top. And, lastly, local rapper Busdriver (LAist Review, #2) will be headlining the Knitting Factory's Main Stage in celebration of his forthcoming disc, 2009's Jhelli Beam. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch NYC-based indie rock sextet White Rabbits. LAist favorites the Subjects are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Van Morrison, Patrick Watson, Local Natives, The Devil Makes Three

Tonight legendary Belfast-bred singer-songwriter Van Morrison will be taking on his second night of a three-date stint at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown. LAist favorites Local Natives (LAist Review) are poised to grace Spaceland with local indie rockers Voxhaul Broadcast, Aushua and Rumspringa (LAist Review, #2). And, lastly, Santa Cruz-based bluegrass outfit the Devil Makes Three will be headlining the Troubadour. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hotel Café to catch Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, who will invariably dazzle you with his ethereal voice.

Tonight In Rock: Nico Stai, Alex & Sam, Rumspringa, Wait. Think. Fast.

Tonight LA-based indie rocker Nico Stai will be taking on the second night of a month-long residency at Spaceland. Local jazz-infused pop duo Alex & Sam (LAist Interview, Review) are poised to grace the Hotel Café. And, lastly, Echo Park-bred quartet Wait. Think. Fast. will be headlining the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Viper Room to catch the bluesy rock duo Rumspringa (LAist Review, #2). The equally rollicking duo Restavrant is slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: The Airborne Toxic Event, The Movies, Lemon Sun, Bobb Bruno

Tonight LA-based buzz band the Airborne Toxic Event (LAist Interview, #2, Review, #2, #3, #4, #5) will be headlining the Henry Fonda Music Box. Local indie rockers Lemon Sun will be ringing in their latest effort at the Troubadour with a handful of great bands, including Voxhaul Broadcast, Rumspringa and Restavrant. And, lastly, experimental instrumentalist Bobb Bruno will be playing the Smell in Downtown. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch fringe rockers the Movies (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4). LAist favorites Crooked Cowboy & the Freshwater Indians are slated to kick off the show.

This past Saturday, the first annual OId Bank District Holiday Block Party was held at the intersection of 4th and Main in Downtown LA. The main stage, booked by Little Radio (MySpace), featured local bands Restaurant (MySpace), Dawes (MySpace), Rumspringa (MySpace), The Like (MySpace), Whispertown 2000 (MySpace), and The Afternoons (MySpace).

Tonight Brazilian electro pop sensation CSS will be stopping through the Echoplex with Portland-based goobers Natalie Portman's Shaved Head. LA local Murs (LAist Interview) is poised to flow at the El Rey Theatre. Singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards will be gracing the stage at the Hotel Café. The Watkins Family (LAist Review) is slated to put on a special Christmas edition of their Family Hour at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, the gruff indie rock outfit known as Low vs Diamond (LAist Review) will be letting loose at the Troubadour with their Seattle friends Barcelona. But considering the "drastic" change in climate and the nature of the season, we strongly suggest heading over to Pershing Square for Spaceland On Ice. What better way to ring in the winter than with LA's own bluesy rock duo Rumspringa (LAist Review), who will be performing for free!

Talk about a show explosion! Tonight Madonna will be entertaining the masses at Dodger Stadium. NY-based rock band Coheed and Cambria (LAist Review) will begin a series of shows at the Avalon in which they play each of their four albums in their entirety—tonight they'll be revisiting 2002's The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Local blues-rock band Rumspringa (LAist Review) will be playing at the Viper Room for the Day of the Living Party. And just about every music blogger and their mother will be in attendance at 3 of Clubs tonight, where SF natives Birds & Batteries and the Blacks will be performing. But the real tough choice of the night is between the Happy Hollows' (LAist Review, #2) EP Release Event at the Echo and TV on the Radio (LAist Review) at the Wiltern. The former certainly affords a bevy of superb lesser-known acts, like LBC's the Soft Hands and our personal favorite, Austin-by-way-of-Dallas the Strange Boys (LAist Review, #2). However, we can't deny the latter's latest effort, 2008's Dear Science. So head on over to the Wiltern to catch the buzzworthy Brooklyn-based indie rock quintet.

Annual music marathons like SXSW in Austin and CMJ in New York have long served as industry-only gatherings. But now, like never before, they have become regarded as a necessity for those enthusiasts on the cusp of music. They've evolved into a breeding ground for next year's latest and greatest—a musical pageantry of epic proportions.

Tonight will be relatively low-key with regards to the music scene. We've got Laura Marling's second night of a two-date stint at the Hotel Cafe. Brian of the Movies will be playing with his band Very at Echo Curio, opening for Thailand. And Abe Vigoda and Moonrats will be playing for free at USC's Ground Zero. You can't beat that lineup. But we suggest you pay the Echo a visit to sample the relatively eclectic indie rock bill. LA-based Voxhaul Broadcast, who pretty much serve as the West Coast's answer to the Walkmen, will be opening for the roisterous and bluesy Rumspringa.
