Tonight In Rock: Robyn Hitchcock, Dr. Dog, Starfucker, Breakestra

Tonight English singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock will be headlining Spaceland with none other than local indie pop outfit the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) in tow. Philadelphia's own psych rockers Dr. Dog (LAist Review) are poised to grace the Henry Fonda Music Box. And, lastly, local ten-piece funk orchestra Breakestra will be taking on the El Rey Theatre. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch Portland-bred electro-infused indie pop outfit Starfucker (LAist Review, #2). LAist favorites, Portland-based electro pop trio Strength are slated to kick things off.

Now that I have recovered from nine days and nights at SXSW, I can tell you that it's all downhill from here for the world's greatest music festival. No way could anything top that. 1750 bands and hardly any of them sucked. How does that happen? Plenty of free food, beer, no lines if you had a badge. Stalwarts like The Stooges, Pete Townshend, Robyn Hitchcock, Public Enemy, Peter Case, Rickie Lee Jones, and...

It's a movie, and it's called acting." she said. - CNN - Brent Liles, former bass player of Social Distortion died yesterday when a truck hit him while he was riding his bicycle - LA Times...

Colin Meloy might look like just another guy in line at Radio Shack, but he knows no fear. After being called out by Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report for utilizing his trademarked Green Screen effect, Meloy upped the ante -- and on December 20th on Comedy Central, we will all benefit from the “Decemberists vs. Stephen Colbert Guitar Solo Challenge.”

Rapper Tone Loc turns 40 today. Music geek favorite Robyn Hitchcock is 53.

After a week in which LAist sat on a panel, enjoyed immensely the panels of others, partied with our publisher, our co-conspirator from the north and the brand new baby of the family, caught Asobi Seksu with Neal Pollack, and ate ourselves into oblivion, it is finally time for us to head home.
