Tonight In Rock: Depeche Mode, Los Lobos, Nite Jewel, The Monolators

Tonight English electronic band Depeche Mode will be headlining the Hollywood Bowl with Swedish indie rockers Peter Bjorn and John (LAist Review, #2). East Los Angeles-based three-time Grammy Award-winning chicano rockers Los Lobos are poised to share the stage at the Greek Theatre with none other than Texas-based Grammy Award-winning rockers Los Lonely Boys. Little Radio's weekly Summer Camp, which features the likes of Har Mar Superstar, the Living Things and Restavrant, is kicking off today in the outskirts of Downtown. And, lastly, LAist favorites the Monolators (LAist Review, #2) will be headlining Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch local electronic chanteuse Nite Jewel, who will be performing for this week's edition of Part Time Punks. NY-based experimental electronic act Silk Flowers are slated to kick things off.

It may be months late, but Little Radio's weekly Summer Camp series finally returns on Sunday, August 16th, with performances by The Living Things, Har Mar Superstar, and Restavrant as well as DJ sets by Ana Calderon, Daisy O'Dell, and Clifton Weaver. Summer Camp runs every Sunday thereafter until September 20th. "That's three Sundays in August, then 3 more in September," according to Little Radio. "Let's just call it September Camp. New location, new pool, new turf. Same water slide and shennanigans!"

Tonight In Rock: Mirah, Dengue Fever, Spindrift, Brother Reade

Tonight LA-based Cambodian rock outfit Dengue Fever will be screening their forthcoming DVD, Sleepwalking Through The Mekong, as well as performing at the Echoplex. Local psych-rockers Spindrift are poised to headline Spaceland with blues-rock duo Restavrant in tow. And, lastly, LA-by-way-of-Winston-Salem hip hop duo Brother Reade (LAist Interview, Review) will be gracing Space 15 Twenty. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Portland-based pop-folk songstress Mirah.

Tonight In Rock: The Airborne Toxic Event, The Movies, Lemon Sun, Bobb Bruno

Tonight LA-based buzz band the Airborne Toxic Event (LAist Interview, #2, Review, #2, #3, #4, #5) will be headlining the Henry Fonda Music Box. Local indie rockers Lemon Sun will be ringing in their latest effort at the Troubadour with a handful of great bands, including Voxhaul Broadcast, Rumspringa and Restavrant. And, lastly, experimental instrumentalist Bobb Bruno will be playing the Smell in Downtown. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch fringe rockers the Movies (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4). LAist favorites Crooked Cowboy & the Freshwater Indians are slated to kick off the show.

Tonight LA has its fair share of NYE options. French Rumba Flamenca outfit the Gipsy Kings are slated to headline the newly renovated Conga Room (LAist Review). Long Beach-bred rapper Snoop Dogg is poised to flow at the House of Blues Sunset. Legendary alternative rockers Stone Temple Pilots will be performing at Club Nokia in Downtown. Showtune maestros Pink Martini are gearing up for two gigs, one early, one late, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Bob Marley's backing band the Wailers will be jamming at the Roxy. Santa Barbara-based folk rockers Toad the Wet Sprocket will be rocking out at the Canyon Club. Israeli trance outfit Infected Mushroom are set to headline the Hollywood Palladium. Little Radio will be throwing a NYE extravaganza at the Bank with Ariel Pink, Crystal Antlers, Restavrant and Port O'Brien. And, lastly, local indie rockers the Henry Clay People and the Happy Hollows will be coming through Spaceland. But from the bevy of options we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to party with the Blood Arm. The rollicking quartet will surely kick the New Year off with a bang.

Tonight rappers Method Man and Redman will be performing at the House of Blues Sunset. We can only surmise that they'll be performing songs from 1999's Blackout!. Brit-rockers Travis is set to play to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Florida's own Copeland will be shelling out saccharine indie pop songs at the El Rey Theatre in support of 2008's You Are My Sunshine. You'll surely get your fix of falsetto. Brooklyn-based pop rockers Bishop Allen will be performing at the Echo. And, lastly, psych rock act Spindrift will be celebrating the release of their forthcoming full length, 2008's The West, with grizzly blues rock duo Restavrant at the Roxy. But we suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch Indie 103's Check One Twosday. Local indie rock songbirds Earlimart will be accompanied by Red Cortez, formerly known as the Weather Underground.

Tonight legendary English rock band the Who will be stopping through the Nokia Theatre. Van the Man will be performing 1968's Astral Weeks in its entirety at the Hollywood Bowl once more. And, of course, Coheed and Cambria will be plowing through the third night of a series of shows at the Avalon in which they perform their catalog in its entirety—tonight they'll be revisiting 2005's Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. SF-based buzz band the Dodos will be playing at the Echoplex with local blues-rock duo Restavrant. Lastly, LA-by-way-of-DC psych-rockers Dead Meadow will be checking into the Troubadour for a night of hazy riffs. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to see Portland-based Starfucker (LAist Review). The auspiciously-named electro-pop trio seized hold of the masses at this year's CMJ Festival in New York. Catch them before they're huge!

Tonight we find electronic maestros MSTRKRFT, A-trak and LA Riots thumping out dance floor-worthy tunes at the Henry Fonda Theater. The hole-and-corner Pehrspace will play host to not one, but two of Long Beach's finest indie rock bands—the Valley Arena and the Soft Hands. LA-based folk rockers One Trick Pony and Seasons will be playing the Eagle Rock Bowling & Drinking Club's 3rd Anniversary Show at All Star Lanes. And lastly, Texan duo Restavrant will be celebrating the release of their debut album, Returns to the Tomb of Guiliano Medidici, at the Troubadour. Although we strongly considered checking out the raucous and thoroughly satisfying antics of Restavrant, we simply can't pass up the opportunity to see the opening night of Laura Marling's two-date stint at the Hotel Cafe. The English indie folk singer-songwriter is poignantly candid about love, life and the in between. And she evokes admiration through her minimal performances, which often find her crooning sinuous melody lines alone with her acoustic guitar—a palpable and definitive symbol of utmost vulnerability.
