We are counting down to the madness. One of the most exciting days in sports and the least productive work days on the calendar, the opening round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships, is less than 24 hours away.

It's the fifth Thursday of the month and this is your last chance to see The Airborne Toxic Event in their January Spaceland residency. KROQ and Indie 103.1 both added their song "Sometime Around Midnight" to their rotations last week and Airborne hears this is the first time in about 15 years KROQ has done this with an unsigned band (Weezer being that 15 year marker). "We also feel incredibly lucky and thankful that so many people seem to like our song. We are just a local band from Los Feliz and we would have never imagined we'd be writing an e-mail like this tonight," they wrote earlier this week.

As one of my favorite bloggers Jeffrey Wells recently wrote, "The Sundance Film Festival is a 10-day event, but it's always over as of Wednesday morning...the voltage turns down, there are fewer people on Main Street, all the presumably hot titles (i.e., name casts, advance-hyped) have been screened." Park City actually becomes a manageable town again and tickets that were impossible to get a few days ago can usually be had for less than face value. With that in mind, I decided to blow off the morning's press screenings and head out with a group of friends to see a film I'd been closed out of earlier, .

Even on the best days, the Sundance Film Festival is an extremely hectic place to be. Screenings and events often overlap and are spread all over town, and even though the public transportation is good (and free!), it can still be a nightmare to get someplace quickly. Cabs can be hard to come by and parking (when available) is expensive. Furthermore, there are always going to be lines waiting for you so you have to plan to get everywhere fairly early. Sometimes, you get bit in the ass like I did (twice) yesterday.

As a passionate traveler, I'm often struck by signs. Signs that you pass on the road, signs to motels, barber shops, gas stations, liquor stores and churches. This one was taken in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and I think it says it all. Some might say life (and love Pat Benatar we know) is a battlefield, but what if it didn't have to be. If people were just a little bit nicer and more cognizant of each other. Look around, do you have to be frustrated by little things each day or things that people do that ruffle your feathers? Maybe 2008 can be the year you take just a moment's pause to let the moment pass. Practice kindness this year...for as they say, sugar can get you a lot further than salt.

NFL playoffs are here! Which means that Superbowl XLII is right around the corner. This year's Superbowl is going to be played in Arizona on February 3, 2007 and it was recently announced that Tom Petty will be playing the halftime show.

Last night I attended a screening of the 2006 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winning documentary God Grew Tired of Us, directed by Christopher Quinn.
