Pinot Bistro on Ventura Boulevard has seen may chefs come and go, some of them spectacular and some of them so-so. Previous chefs include such notable names as Octavio Becerra, Miki Zivkovic and of course, Joachim Spichal himself. Even Suzanne Goin has worked in the kitchen. We were excited to see what the latest chef, Hugo Veltman, has been cooking up and jumped at the invitation to try their dineLA menu.

The latest thing in great restaurant ideas? Pinot Bistro in Studio City has announced a new service for busy worker bees: Cuisine Rapide, a $20 lunch menu guaranteed to get you in and out of the restaurant in 45 minutes.

Sometimes when the weather or the world is a little too harsh, I get a craving for something I call "Mom food". Most people call it comfort food. Stew is the quintissential mom food, and Bistro Provence in Burbank serves a beef bourguignon just like mom would make, if mom were an award-winning French chef.

No time to find that special someone? Check out HurryDate, a speed dating service that hosts parties at fun spots around the city. The set-up is pretty typical: you have brief one-on-ones with about a dozen "dates," and a whistle blow indicates it's time to move on to the next potential love connection. Everyone gets a scorecard to mark "yes" or "no" after each date's name, you enter that info. in the HurryDate website, and then they match you with the people who liked you back.

Option One is for both the VIP Champagne Brunch & Tasting Event, and costs $150 per person. There are Noon and 1 p.m. seatings, which include an elegant brunch served in the historic Ivy Substation with patio seating, a preview of the Silent Auction, and full access to Tasting Event. Restaurants include Beacon, Bastide, Ford's Filing Station, Patina, and Valentino.
