The Pixies kicked off a three night stand at the Palladium Thursday night with an exhilarating run-through of their classic “Doolittle”, its assorted B-sides, and a smattering of earlier faves. These days they’re riding a wave of nostalgia, rather than a wave of mutilation, but as reunions go, this is one of the more gratifying ones.

Grizzly Bear @ The Hollywood Palladium 10/20/09

Maybe the greatest thing about Grizzly Bear, the thing that everyone should know, is this: They are totally enigmatic and impossible to pin down. Of course, this is what makes them difficult to write about and even more difficult to consider what it is that makes this foursome so appealing.

Doctor's Orders: No NIN Show at the Fonda Tonight

Trent Reznor has fallen ill, forcing Nine Inch Nails' Wave Goodbye tour to be put on hold. Reznor said he had a cold during last night's concert at the Palladium, which included an appearance by Gary Numan joining NIN on Numan's "Cars." Soon after the show ended the band released the following message on its website:

"Brothers and Sisters I have a story for you," announced a skinny man in a white collared shirt. He then relayed to us a tale of a magic man on Hollywood Blvd. who gave him magic coins that got him so high he saw Jesus. He then denounced Jesus and said that the next band would be even better than the son of God, which is a pretty tough introduction to live up to. I'm sure that had electric guitars been around when Jesus walked the earth, he would have been freakishly good at it.

Win Tickets to Third Eye Blind at The Hollywood Palladium

So the Hollywood Palladium has been open since last year and things are rocking along. Next week Thursday, June 25th, Third Eye Blind is playing their big LA show with Low Vs. Diamond opening (if you need tickets stat, you can buy them here).

Hailing from the great Northwest, experimental indie rockers Menomena took the stage before a sold out crowd at the Palladium on Wednesday in support of their latest album Friend and Foe. Having never seen these guys before, I was really excited to see whether or not they could pull off their famed experimental hooks on stage. This band has made their name by writing albums of chaotic creativity. Therefore, I thought, surely even if the music was bad it wouldn't be dull.

The latest iteration of Modest Mouse rocked the mid-sized (4,000 capacity) Hollywood Palladium last week leaving most fans -- young, old, industry, walk-ins -- satisfied. But for those waiting to hear the opening notes of the band's radio (and video game) hits "Float On," "Ocean Breathes Salty," and "Dashboard," it was an incomplete night.

About three-quarters of the way through Motley Crue’s set at the Palladium, Nikki Sixx paused for a moment to address the crowd.

Los Angeles-based trio Street Drum Corps are living proof that the Hollywood rock star dream can never die. Widely recognized as the "punk rock Stomp" group that plays every stage from drum circles to huge arenas, the boys of SDC are right where they want to be; opening for LA metal gods Motley Crüe. With the show coming up this Friday, we got a chance to speak with front man Bobby Alt about the bands humble beginnings and how they worked their way up to sharing the stage with one of metal's biggest groups.

In the war of who's going dominate the ticket selling market for concerts and events, Live Nation has only just begun to challenge West Hollywood based Ticketmaster. A recent deal will let Live Nation sell the majority of tickets for SMG, a Philadelphia company that manages more than 200 major venues including The Forum in Inglewood. "SMG, owned by private-equity firm American Capital Ltd., is estimated to be Ticketmaster's second-largest client," reports the Wall Street Journal.

The newly renovated Hollywood Palladium has announced their fall line-up, which begins with JAY-Z on October 15. The rest of their schedule includes Flogging Molly, The Kooks, Of Montreal, Slightly Stoopid, Mudvayne, Gym Class Heroes/The Roots, Rise Against, Dragonforce, Alejandra Guzman, Onerepublic and La Fabrika Del Reggaeton. Tickets will be sold on Live Nation's website starting tomorrow for Rise Against, but all the other shows will be sold starting on September 13, except for JAY-Z on September 5.

On September 23, 1940, the Hollywood Palladium opened its doors for the first time with the then not-so-well-known Frank Sinatra singing with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

"The Moz shuts down the Palladium!" Well yes in a way he did and has, at least last night and tomorrow night, until resuming his 10-night (now apparently 8-night) residency at the Palladium. However Monday night's opening night show did happen and Morrissey proved why he is so beloved and adored. If you can get yourself to the Palladium in the two weeks or so, please do yourself a favor and attend one of...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs The Palladium, Hollywood October 1, 2006. I was lucky enough to catch the Yeah Yeah Yeahs last night as they headlined the first show of their two-night stopover in Los Angeles, which once again earned its reputation as an early-to-bed-early-to-rise town. Both opening acts -- Amad Wasif and The Blood Brothers -- had already completed their sets when I arrived around 9pm. I know it’s a Sunday, but come on! Shortly...
