A twenty-something man was shot and killed outside a hillside home off Coldwater Canyon Blvd. early this morning in Studio City, the LA Times is reporting. A New Year's Eve party at a large rented house on the 3900 block of Avenida de Sol was winding down as the shooting occurred around 4 a.m.

Tonight LA has its fair share of NYE options. French Rumba Flamenca outfit the Gipsy Kings are slated to headline the newly renovated Conga Room (LAist Review). Long Beach-bred rapper Snoop Dogg is poised to flow at the House of Blues Sunset. Legendary alternative rockers Stone Temple Pilots will be performing at Club Nokia in Downtown. Showtune maestros Pink Martini are gearing up for two gigs, one early, one late, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Bob Marley's backing band the Wailers will be jamming at the Roxy. Santa Barbara-based folk rockers Toad the Wet Sprocket will be rocking out at the Canyon Club. Israeli trance outfit Infected Mushroom are set to headline the Hollywood Palladium. Little Radio will be throwing a NYE extravaganza at the Bank with Ariel Pink, Crystal Antlers, Restavrant and Port O'Brien. And, lastly, local indie rockers the Henry Clay People and the Happy Hollows will be coming through Spaceland. But from the bevy of options we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to party with the Blood Arm. The rollicking quartet will surely kick the New Year off with a bang.

Metro (not Metrolink) will be offering 24-hour service on all its rail lines (that's Red, Purple, Blue, Green and Gold) tonight in celebration of New Year's Eve. They'll be running every 20 minutes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and you don't have to pay for a fare between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. (and that includes buses, too). Then, Thursday morning to facilitate the large crowds for the Tournament of the Roses and the game, Gold Line trains will run every 7 to 8 minutes between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m., every 10 minutes between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and again every 7 to 8 minutes between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Enjoy your night!

Well, if you happen to drive within seven miles of home, then you might be in luck. The Auto Club of Southern California is offering their Tipsy Tow service for those too inebriated to drive, but aware enough to take advantage of the free service.

Love it or hate it, tonight's New Year's Eve. And while half of the city has vacated for NYE's in Vegas, there's plenty to do right here in LA to welcome '08.

So we heard that at 12:00 a.m. EST, 9:00 p.m. PST (or LA time for those of us who could give a crap about the rest of the West Coast) tonight, those sexy boys at Current TV, Max Lugavere and Jason Silva, will be hosting the exclusive (yes, exclusive) US broadcast of Radiohead playing In Rainbows. In its entirety. Sexy, exclusive, entirety. After the broadcast, M and J will be hosting a very special Best of Current TV hour.

As reported earlier this week, on New Year's Eve, there will be all night Metro rail service. As one commenter pointed out, the news was actually broken in a press release where it was buried with not much detail given:

“The Tournament of Roses parade and game is the biggest venue for Metro Gold Line service all year, with upwards of 60,000 train boardings on a single day,” said Pam O’Connor, Santa Monica City Council member and Metro Board Chair. “Metro is meeting that demand this year with quality, all-night train service and free rides from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. that day to ensure the public enjoys these wonderful New Year’s festivities.”

Donning a trademark jumpsuit and moon-man helmet, Cee-Lo Green of Gnarles Barkley emerged on stage at USC's Galen Center to the tune of a surging, epic, space-odyssey instrumental. Touting the merits of Danger Mouse, Feng Shui, and Crown Royal, our weeblesque hero warmed up the enthusiastic crowd with a string of pervasive, electro-rock/neo-soul, head boppers. Threatening that the party might get “off the chain” to a bunch of arty-indie-college-punks was certainly the booze talking,...

We, along with about a bazillion other people, were a little more than miffed when Giant Village crashed and burned on New Year's Eve. Heck, that's not even a true statement, since it never took off. But it's been six months, and we think we're over it. At least, that's what out therapists told us.
