Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini will be headlining the Wiltern. Local noise-infused rockers HEALTH will not only be opening for NIN a second time—this time at the Wiltern—but they will also be performing to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Chicago's own alt-country troubadour Cass McCombs is poised to take on the Bootleg Theater with none other than San Francisco-based alt-pop act Girls. And, lastly, Raconteurs guitarist, Michigan-bred singer-songwriter Brendan Benson will be gracing the Troubadour.

Tonight Cleveland-bred industrial rockers NIN will be performing at the Echoplex with LA-based noise-infused rock act HEALTH. Prolific Bay Area punk rockers NOFX will be performing at Club Nokia with a slew of other prominent acts for the Vans Warped Tour 15th Anniversary Celebration. LA-based punk outfit the Germs are poised to headline the House of Blues Anaheim with none other than English punk band UK Subs in tow. And, lastly, Echo Park's own female rocker Queen Kwong will be gracing Silver Factory Studios. But we strongly suggest heading over to Tony’s Bar in Downtown to catch LAist favorites the Henry Clay People (Review, #2, #3, #4), who will be performing for this weekend's edition of Little Radio Summercamp. Local indie rockers the Monolators (LAist Review, #2) are slated to kick things off.

Trent Reznor has fallen ill, forcing Nine Inch Nails' Wave Goodbye tour to be put on hold. Reznor said he had a cold during last night's concert at the Palladium, which included an appearance by Gary Numan joining NIN on Numan's "Cars." Soon after the show ended the band released the following message on its website:

Denver-based singer-songwriter Jill Sobule (LAist Interview), best known for her 1995 single "I Kissed A Girl," will be gracing Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, electronic shoegazer Anthony Gonzalez, otherwise known as M83, will be taking over the Glass House in Pomona. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre to catch local alternative rock outfit Jane's Addiction. A job listing popped on Craigslist yesterday that might be music to the right web and graphics dork's ears. Following in the footsteps of Matthew Good and Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor announced today that he has come to the end of the downward spiral. He has fulfilled his contractual agreements with Interscope and will see if he can avoid the middleman and allow his audience to deal with him in a more intimate arrangement, he said on nin.com.

Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. • Nine Inch Nails drummer
  Jerome Dillon has been hospitalized for the second time since NIN began its
  fall tour. According to the band's
  website, Dillon returned to Los Angeles today to undergo tests. NIN's
  September 30th (Oakland) concert will be postponed and a replacement drummer will
  be used for the rest of the tour.

• Nickelback was
  unable to shake off Kanye West's Gold
  Digger. West's track ranks as the most downloaded

So how would you end a weekend in which you have the number one movie in the country? Well, if you're Mos Def, you cold rock a party like it was Krush Groove. The Mighty Mos Def and Talib Kweli closed the main stage (to a much smaller crowd than Nine Inch Nails which, we think, had to do with Goldenvoice not naming Mos and Talib in the adverts or the program) with an energetic set spanning their combined efforts as Black Star and their more recognizable solo faire. Common, who loves to show up at LA hip hop shows and do his guest spots, showed in the desert as well.

Every year, we say we're not going to battle the heat and the crowds and the traffic on the 10 to spend a weekend at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio; and, every year, Coachella puts together a list of acts that we'd kick ourselves if we missed.

We're having a debate with ourselves this morning. Do we lede with the most important global story or the King of Pop? Since local news seems obsessed with celebrity justice, we'll pretend like we have loftier standards and run with the first Iraqi Democratic Election.
