As the summer emerges from June Gloom, sure, the clubs were still hopping. But above that, June saw the largest electronic dance music event in LA's history, the Electric Daisy Carnival. The 13th annual megamegarave featured 135,000 revelers over two days (daze?) If were weren't in a recession there might have been 135,007 attendees. It was Coachella meets Burning Man meets a sweaty warehouse meets a USC football game. That's a good thing.

Pencil This In: Roger Corman, Root Beer Launch and Green Jobs

There's an amazing number of events going tonight for a Tuesday. Check 'em out: TALK* Legendary film director/producer Roger Corman, whose works include the original Little Shop of Horrors (1960) and Deathrace 2000 (1975), has written his autobiography How I Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime. He’ll talk about his filmmaking, his book and other topics with Aïda Ruilova, a filmmaker known for her "gothic aesthetic." This free program begins at 7 pm.

As a city known for its beautiful weather and beautiful people, you'd think it would be difficult to name a more ideal city for singles than Los Angeles. However, Forbes.com, actually found 15 other cities that they think are a better fit for bachelors and bachelorettes in their "8th Annual Best Cities for Singles" list.

A good hangout can be hard to find, so for anyone who finds themselves looking for nightlife in Long Beach, LAist's Photo contributor Michael Zampelli (aka rink_rat on Flickr) suggests The Pike Bar & Fish Grill. He tells us: "The Pike Bar in Long Beach is owned by the original drummer of Social Distortion and you can feel the vibe from the minute you cross the welcome mat with the Social D. skeleton logo and hear the first blast of punk rock from the jukebox. There is free live music nearly every night and the real surprise is the kitchen, which churns out gourmet quality food from mushroom tacos to authentic pasta to the crispiest and most delicate beer-battered fish you've ever tasted." (Check out the menu here.)

Let’s face it, there are a lot of bar events going on in our city that we hear about every day. When we heard about a new Wednesday night social in Hollywood called Down With the Nerdsters (DWTN), one had to ask, “What the heck is a nerdster?”

Next Door Tapas is a swanky and intimate little lounge in Studio City, perfect for a weekend or late evening bite -- just don't plan on being there before 6pm. Despite the 5pm opening that's advertised on most review websites, we showed up at 5:30 only to find half-dressed tables and an unready staff. The wine menu was quick to arrive once we were seated, however, and we found the lounge to be a relaxing environment for a romantic rendezvous (well, up until the large party of cougars showed up, but whatevs).

Tranquility Base, downtown's newest restaurant/bar, celebrated its grand opening with a "first annual" springtime cocktail party last night. There were some passed hors d'oeuvres, a cocktail tasting to choose the restaurant's featured cocktail and lots of dressed-up 30-something revelers enjoying the warm evening by the outdoor firepit.

Morrison Hotel Gallery hosted the opening of Pattie Boyd’s photographs Saturday night, where the still-stunning Boyd chatted effusively with guests and old friends (although no Ringo appearance as rumored.) The exhibit focuses on Boyd’s beginning work, giving a remarkable view into a private world that only a Beatle wife – and later, Eric Clapton’s – could have. In one shot, a dreamy eyed, shirtless George gazes into the camera, sunglasses at his side, in a bedside afterglow that only she could have captured. In India, Paul, George, and John laze about chatting, either oblivious to (or so comfortable with) her lens that the division between photographer and subject disappears. Oddly, the Clapton shots – while better, technique-wise, (or so Elise says, being the photographer here) – lack the palpable charisma found in the other photos. Or maybe I’m biased after reading Boyd’s bio.

Unless you don't like drinking liquor to begin with, it can be a bit of a drag to be the designated driver for your drunkard friends. You have to sit there on your bar stool sipping your tiny, weak soda while they get to enjoy pretty, decked-out, specialty cocktails. Fortunately, there are some lovely nonalcoholic options out there for you responsible folk, and I'm not talking O'Douls.

As revitalization takes place throughout LA's downtown area, many are seeking to extend the developments and improvements to the Broadway area, which is home to many majestic and historic theaters, once the crown jewels of our city's movie palaces. "Among the most prized treasures of the area are Broadway's twelve historic movie palaces, which in their heyday evoked - and often surpassed - the magic of stage and screen," explains Historic Downtown LA.

Now that the rain has gone away, Spaceland on Ice can continue this week with The Chapin Sisters and their folk/pop.

Travel + Leisure's November 2007 issue features a fun little ditty called America's Favorite Cities. They've asked people from all over the country to rate 25 well-known cities on everything from culture and nightlife to public transportation and weather. We're not quite sure who these 60,000 respondents think they are, but they don't have anything nice to say about our fair city. Oh, except for the fact that we have nice shops. Los Angeles...

Every Friday, LAist is taking you on a trip down to Orange County to uncover the unique dining experiences that await adventurous eaters willing to explore beyond the county line. This month, LAist has brought you daily coverage of some of LA’s finest late night dining spots from all over the Southland. So we’d be remiss if we didn’t throw in at least one spot from OC. Some of you readers that have probably...

Welcome to the all fire, all the time edition of Extra Extra! The weather is not expected to abate until tomorrow, and fire fighters are still days away from containing major blazes. The New York Times is liveblogging the fires; they are reporting that over 500,000 people have been forced to evacuate so far (although other reports are estimating up to one million people have had to flee their homes). The Daily News is...

LAist had the opportunity to catch up with Jonny Coleman, curator of Art Crawl X and also founder of Found Gallery in Silverlake this week to ask him some questions about the art walk this weekend, what not to miss, and why this art walk is sure to kick ass. What is Art Crawl X? Art Crawl X is the tenth annual art walk on the Eastside [excluding downtown]. The Crawl includes both conventional...

I should have known that nearly a month without a night on the town was enough to render me out of the loop. Unfortunately, that possibility didn't occur to me until I was already cruising down Hollywood Blvd. at 10:30pm on Friday. I was headed towards Star Shoes with my boyfriend's 21-year-old sister in tow, ready for a wild L.A. night before she went back to Tennessee. Absent-mindedly wondering if I could find a...

There is a serious water (-ing hole) shortage in Northeast LA. Despite their hipster enclave status, I’m always surprised that there aren’t more places to drink in thriving cultural hotspots like Eagle Rock and Highland Park. The recently opened York on York attempts to correct the problem. The “neighborhood gastropub” is located about halfway between Figueroa and Eagle Rock Blvd. in the increasingly popular small stretch of York that also includes Johnny’s, Marty’s, and...

We saw a news brief in today's Los Angeles Downtown News that caught our eye: Also of note, the average drink in L.A. is $10.66, higher even than New York's $10.12 a beverage. Ouch. And you mean, people elsewhere don't pay $12 for a cosmopolitan? The drinks in this town are up 11.5% from last year. Now what do we blame that on? Republicans? Gas prices and the war in Iraq? Lindsay and Paris...

Metal Skool, The Effects, Bandcamp, DC4 @ Key Club

Burbank is not exactly known for its nightlife. Most people head into Hollywood and Los Feliz when the weekend comes. But Burbank is not completely devoid of watering holes should the need for a stiff drink or a little bit of entertainment hit you midweek. (More after the jump)...

Plasticsoul, Brandon Schott, Brady Harris, The Karabal Nightlife @ Mr. T's Bowl

Cory Kennedy got bounced from Teddy's at the Roosevelt Hotel, thanks to Lindsay Lohan. Your fake ID didn't work because the bouncer looked a little closer this time because of Lindsay Lohan. According to the New York Times, “the door people everywhere in Hollywood are being really strict with IDs now... It’s changed since the Lindsay incident:” The incident, in which the actress Lindsay Lohan, 20, crashed her car in Hollywood and was arrested at...

Nikki's, Pussycat Beach, Venice Beach, food

They're the best band you'll see all summer. Yes, even better than Rage Against the Machine. Pound-for-pound Arcade Fire has more songs, better songs, and you can't call it comeback. Plus the Canadians will be playing two nights in a venue in a park that will still smell of the remnants of an actual fire. Unless Rage has a stage that looks like a 1970s super computer, another point must be awarded to the Arcade Fire who have many more vids that you can see after the jump.

Wake Up Incerinate, The Soft Hands, Karabal Nightlife, Death to Anders @ Silverlake Lounge

DJs spinning old-time jazz, 200 choices of whiskey, and a dark mellow vibe with a twist of a thirty something crowd is making the old Clifton's Silver Spoon location another reason downtown nightlife is coming abuzz. Seven Grand, named after its nearest intersection, just opened this month and it feels as if it has been here for ages. Compared to the generalized and typically terse doormen, cocktail waitresses and bartenders of Hollywood, Grand's staff...

We just got back from a five day trip to Mammoth. It was hot, it was hot, it was...hot. 65 degrees each day on the mountain. So hot that people were stripping down and sweating it out. Mammoth hasn't had good snow in almost three weeks so conditions were a little slushy, a little fussy, a little less than perfect. However - what could be more superb than midweek riding when everyone else expects the snow to be awful so they all stay home? Couldn't be better.

We're guessing most of you are hungover from St. Patrick's Day. We are too. But still, we're going to muddle on through our green haze and give you (drum roll please...) this Week In -ists.
