Dodgers need to be serious about Manny. AP Photo/Gus Ruelas Two years, $55 million? Really Ned? I really hope Ned Colletti and the Dodgers don’t think we’re going to buy it when they say they made every attempt to sign Manny Ramirez. Granted he’s not a spring chicken, but Manny has shown no signs of wearing down. When pitchers were pitching around him during the playoffs, he still managed to get his share of......

Manny-mania has hit Southern California. With Manny Ramirez, the Dodgers have injected themselves in the ass with a syringe filled with hopes of playing in October. Friday night the script was written perfectly. The first three Dodger hitters were retired by D-Backs starter Randy Johnson making the video montage of some of Manny’s home runs right before he led off the second inning the perfect elixir to get the crowd into a frenzy. MAN-NY!......

The Hollywood Billiard's Club is ManRam Crazy. LAist/Jimmy Bramlett So by now everyone knows the big Dodger news today. Dodger Stadium will be hosting the semi-finals and finals of the World Baseball Classic in 2009!!! Oh, and the Manny Ramirez thing. The Dodgers were part of a three-way trade with the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates to acquire Manny Ramirez. In exchange, the Dodgers will send third baseman Andy LaRoche and former first-round......

Kotchman Gets the Offense Rolling. AP Photo/Charles Krupa LA Angels over Boston Red Sox 7-5. The Angels crushed Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka to the tune of six runs on seven hits in five plus innings. The small ball team went big ball as Casey Kotchman hit a two-run homer and Torii Hunter hit an Earl Weaver to account for five of the six runs in that fateful sixth inning. The Angels relievers did......

Every fear I had going into Friday night’s Dodger game against the Washington Nationals came true. As I was making the trek down the parking lot, Dodger PA announcer Eric Smith was announcing the starting line ups. And that vomit stain in Lot 3 was my reaction to the words, “Batting leadoff for the Dodgers, Juan Pierre!” It’s tiring hearing people’s justification of Juan Pierre as a leadoff hitter. Let me reiterate: the job......

Notable Notes With Juan Pierre possibly coming back tonight from the disabled list, bad things could happen. According to Tony Jackson of the Daily News, Joe Torre is non-committal about how the outfield will shake out when Pierre comes back. Excuse me? This is a no brainer if there ever was one in baseball. Andruw Jones needs to sit on the bench. Actually send him to Class A, AA or AAA whatever. Just get......

Dodgers hope for more scenes like this. AP Photo/Matt York The Dodgers first half was, as Project Runway 4 winner Christian Siriano puts it, “A hot tranny mess.” But what has been very haunting during this All Star Break was a piece in the LA Times by the incomparable Ross Newhan examining the demise of the Dodger organization. While most people will point to the sale of the team to Fox as the turning......

The Dodgers are in a lot of trouble right now, and all the trouble is coming from the front office. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that Ned Colletti is going after Cleveland Indians’ starter CC Sabathia and Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson. Upon first reading it sounds completely absurd. Why would the Dodgers want to rent a starter for the remainder of the season when they have the best ERA in the......

Even Andy LaRoche and Blake DeWitt wonders where the bats have gone. AP Photo/Duane Burleson The Dodgers are quite the lucky team. The Lakers’ attention in the media have deflected most of the focus away from how putrid the Dodgers are. 6-1, 3-0, 2-1, 5-4, 3-1, 4-1, 9-0, 5-0. These are all the scores of the Dodgers’ losses at the hands of the Mets, Rockies, Cubs, Padres and Tigers. Not exactly a murderers row......

Andruw Jones doing a belly flop in a game against the Mets 5/6/08. AP/Kevork Djansezian I really keep hoping the Dodgers would break out and show they are a team that could contend for a World Series, but I have to face the fact they are making me look like an oracle. The Dodgers are a team that will make things interesting for a while but will come up short in the end. At......

The symbol of the new year is a baby, and what better baby to ask for predictions than LAist's own sports editor? Baby Adam is much more clear-headed and clairvoyant than the adult version. We're turning to the guru of Gerber, the sultan of spittle, to see what's in store for 2008 and beyond. Q: Thanks for chatting with us, but what makes you qualified? A: I may only be 9 months old, but I've......

So what has been going on in Dodger land since I last posted? Well a big hearty congrats go to Russell Martin for winning the Silver Slugger Award for National League catchers. Voted by coaches and managers, Martin led the NL catchers in hits, homers, runs, stolen bases, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Only Mike Piazza (from 1993-1998) was the other Dodger catcher to win the award since its inception in 1980.......

Am I the only person not drinking from the Joe Torre Kool-Aid? I’m hearing almost everyone gushing how Torre will bring credibility and a winning attitude to the Dodger organization. Even in Monday morning’s press conference Dodger owner Frank McCourt said, “Ned Colletti and I agree there is no substitute for a strong character to lead our team to the top.” It’s funny he brings up the character issue since the way Grady Little......

I go out to do some grocery shopping, and I come home to a shitstorm. As I'm typing these words, I'm listening to the Dodger's conference call announcing Grady Little's resignation. According to Ned Colletti, he has not offered the job to anyone yet. Grady Little took part in the call. He said there were a variety of reasons for this parting. He wouldn't elaborate beyond that. More on this as details come out.......

Ducks 4, Kings 1 - After Los Angeles shocked Anaheim 4-1 in Saturday's season opener in London (yes, London), the defending champs showed who really is king. Despite 10 goals in two days, British fans were reportedly most excited about a good ol' fashioned hockey fight. Welcome back, NHL. Welcome back. A's 3, Angels 2 - The AL West champion Halos hit a skid when they clinched the pennant, but they saved face in their......

Fuck Bill Plaschke. Fuck TJ Simers. Fuck the LA Times. Fuck Grady Little. Fuck Ned Colletti. Fuck Frank McCourt. Fuck Jeff Kent. Fuck the Dodgers. When I read Plaschke’s column Wednesday morning that basically put Matt Kemp in the hangman’s noose, my blood started to boil. How does he have the unmitigated gall to scapegoat Kemp and let the veterans have a free pass just because they have “experience”? This entire mess became public......

After I declared the Dodger season over last week, they go and make me look like a complete asshole by winning the next four games in convincing fashion. But thanks to the Giants, I didn’t look like a complete asshole. As the Dodgers won game after game, the Giants tanked game after game against the wild card leading Padres. With each win instead of inching closer to the postseason, they were merely jogging on......

After the 2000 season, then Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone offered pitcher Darren Dreifort a five-year $55 million contract. Dreifort had come off of a 12-9 season with a 4.16 ERA. Contract in hand Dreifort made 26 starts, 60 relief appearances and 15 trips to the operating table. He did not pitch for the last two years of his contract. This past offseason GM Ned Colletti signed free agent pitcher Jason Schmidt to a......

My did the Dodgers look horrible in their 5-1 loss against the Cardinals today. For that reason, I’m going to look forward to the future of the Dodger organization. One hope for optimism lies in 19-year old left handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw. With the single-A Great Lake’s Loons of the Midwest League, Kershaw struck out 134 batters in 97.1 innings pitched, a 2.77 ERA, 12.39 strikeouts per nine innings pitched and 1.25 walks and......

James Loney was a star pitcher in his high school in Houston. In his senior year of high school, he went 12-1 with 120 strikeouts in 69 innings pitched. More than once this season, he has been willing to pitch if asked. As unlikely as that may have seemed a few weeks ago, it looks like it could be a distinct possibility now. In the fifth inning in Wednesday’s night 2-1 loss to the......

Chad Billingsley was just what the doctor ordered for the Dodgers Monday night. With the Dodgers bullpen so exhausted they’ve started using Prozac as a reliever, the Dodgers needed Bills to go deep in the game against the Houston Astros. In his last three starts he had not gone longer than six innings with 90 pitches. In fact his last game he went five innings on 113 pitches. So the fact he pitched a......

Ice hockey isn't the most popular game in a land of beaches and palm trees, especially when you're losing. With this town's reputation for bandwagon fans, it's no surprise that the Kings -- dead last in the Western Conference and playing like jokers -- have been shuffled to the bottom of the deck. They even tossed away an ace, team captain Mattias Norstrom, in a gamble to add future draft selections (they now have 21......

The NL MVP should be unanimous this season: Los Angeles Dodgers GM Ned Colletti. If you look back to when he was hired, there was a huge mess in L.A. that needed cleaning up. Within 58 days, Colletti hired a new coaching staff and manager, made three trades and acquired seven free agents. But more than anything, Colletti helped restore the confidence the Dodgers lacked in 2005. - Rick Sutcliff, ESPN - "The Dodgers......

The Dodgers announced yesterday that they were trading starter Jae Seo and former starting catcher Dioner Navarro to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for catcher Toby Hall and starter Mark Hendrickson. Hall, who had been Tampa Bay's starting catcher, will become a reserve behind Russ Martin, and Hendrickson will join a beleaguered Dodgers rotation. Apparently the Dodgers have other moves in store, as Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said "In my mind, we're......

Ned Colletti and the Los Angeles Dodgers have been busy trying to clean the mess left by former GM Paul DePodesta. In spite of the injuries that decimated the roster, there was no doubt that the pennant was winnable down the stretch.. Instead of banding together to try and salvage the season, infighting and poor play killed any chance the team had. The Dodgers finished their disappointing season with a loss to eventual division champs San Diego Padres and closed the books on what was their worst season in over 10 years. We don’t know what was more frustrating, the fact that the Dodgers, just before the post season was to start last year, watched their first place team melt away under the misguided general management of the since fired Paul DePodesta. Or that the team......
