“I can’t wait to get to the field,” Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez said of his 50-game suspension. “I miss the game the game that I love.”
Saturday, Jeff Weaver of the Los Angeles Dodgers is scheduled to start against his younger brother, Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in interleague play at Anaheim. "It's a chance to share the same mound on the same day and not many can say that," said Weaver. "It's a moment we won't forget. It's pretty special regardless of the outcome," Jeff told MLB.com. Weaver said his parents had planned to attend the wedding of a relative in Temecula, but those plans have changed.
So it's the rubber match of the Dodgers (30-14) and the Angels (22-20). The Dodgers have started a new promotion with the Bleacher Beach section in the left field reserve seats. Now if I had been smart, I would have brought a USB cable to share pictures with you, but alas that will have to wait until later.
Consider this scenario: your opening day starter starts only one game then goes on the disabled list; your slugger will be suspended for 50 games; your rookie starter who showed promise has no idea where to find the strike zone; two of your bullpen pitchers are on the disabled list; you can't etch the names of your fourth and fifth starters.
So Manny Ramirez got a 50 game suspension for violating the Joint Drug Agreement still hasn't sunk in. Ramirez will not appeal the suspension and will be eligible to come back on July 3, the start of a weekend series at the San Diego Padres. He will lose in excess of $7 million in salary due to the suspension.
"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons."
Japan defeats South Korea 5-3 (10). This was one of the most thrilling games I've seen in quite some time. On the back of Ichiro Suzuki's four-hit night, the last one a game winning double in the top of the 10th inning, Japan managed to salvage some dignity after not winning gold in Beijing. While both teams had defeated each other twice during pool play in the Classic Japan won it when it counted. Being Korean it was hard to watch the end of the game, but I'm content in knowing that we're reigning Olympic gold medalists.
With Spring Training underway, the Dodgers have made Manny Ramirez another offer to return for the 2009 baseball season, reports the Los Angeles Times. The latest offer is $25 million dollars for one year with a player option for a second year for $20 million dollars.
With yesterday’s Sports Illustrated report of Alex Rodriguez testing positive for steroids in 2003, perhaps more incriminating than the actual revelation of A-Rod is the complicity of the MLB Player’s Association namely COO Gene Orza.
Sports Illustrated just published a story on SI.com that Yankee's third baseman slugger Alex Rodriguez tested positive in 2003 for Primobolan and testosterone while with the Texas Rangers.
LA Lakers defeat Washington Wizards 117-97. The game was never in doubt from the opening tip off. When the crowd starts hanging on every action of Sun Yue on the court, you know the Lakers have coasted. Andrew Bynum led all scorers with 23 points while six other Lakers scored in double digits.
The Evil Four-Letter's Buster Olney is reporting that Mark Teixeira has agreed to an eight-year $180 million contract with the New York Yankees. While the Angels, Red Sox, Nationals and Orioles were all in the hunt for Teixeira over the past couple of months, the Yankees hid on the sidelines ready to swoop in if the deal was right.
Ken Rosenthal from Fox Sports is reporting that shortstop Rafael Furcal has decided to rejoin the Dodgers. Details of the agreement and whether it's really happening is unclear at this point. This week has seen Furcal going to the Oakland A's and Atlanta Braves, so until something concrete happens, it's best to be wary.
Two years, $55 million? Really Ned?
“We didn’t throw at his head. We threw it over his head.”
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the 2008 National League West Division Champions.

With the Milwaukee Brewers winning the NL Wild Card today, the Dodgers will face the Chicago Cubs in the NL Divisional Series. Although the Dodgers are 2-5 against the Cubs this season, all of their contests were before the trading deadline. So the Cubs will be facing a completely different monster. First game in the series is on Wednesday, and the first game the Dodgers will be hosting is on Saturday. LET'S GO DODGERS!!!
The "Collision at the Coliseum" turned out to be the huge mismatch that most predicted, while the Bruins made some personal history that they would rather soon forget. Records broken in Anaheim and the Dodgers extend their lead.
This is a familiar road all Dodger fans have been down.
Manny-mania has hit Southern California.
So by now everyone knows the big Dodger news today.
Every fear I had going into Friday night’s Dodger game against the Washington Nationals came true.
The Dodgers just acquired Cleveland Indians' third baseman Casey Blake for minor league pitcher Jon Meloan and catcher Carlos Santana. Blake, who turns 35 next month, is hitting .289 with an OPS of .830 and OPS+ of 119 (an OPS+ of 100 being average) and will be a free agent at the end of the season. He will be dressed in tonight's game against the Washington Nationals.
As we mentioned earlier today, Los Angeles native Baron Davis is headed home and he's bringing his beard and 21 points per game with him. The former Crossroads School and UCLA standout came to a verbal agreement with the LA's other team, making the Clippers suddenly relevant and a playoff contender. Baron credits the community for his decision telling ESPN, "I'm happy with where I'm going. A big reason is because of the impact and the things that I can do going forward. I knew I could have done them here and created all kinds of good things and positive things in the community, and ultimately, me going home helps me make an impact on young kids." Elton Brand, who opted out Monday is expected to re-sign with the Clips for a hometown discount. Baron and Brand! Clipper Nation hasn't been this excited since the Red, White and Blue marched all the way into the second round of the playoffs in 2006.
The Dodgers are quite the lucky team. The Lakers’ attention in the media have deflected most of the focus away from how putrid the Dodgers are.
In 1989 I was chewing on the strings of my glove while patrolling the infield for the North End Little League Tee-Ball Padres in my hometown of Bridgeport, CT. We didn't lose a game. We didn't win either - they don't keep score in tee-ball.
After this weekend's exposition games against the Boston Red Sox (the highlight being Saturday's Coliseum game), today was the first season game of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Playing against the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers took it home at 5-0.
Blazers 82, Clippers 80 - Portland blew a 14 point lead in Staples Center one night after blowing a 15 point lead on the very same court. This time they were playing the Clippers, so things worked out OK. Los Angeles managed a pathetic 29 points in the first half, but did make a noble effort in the second. Corey Maggette was hot with 32 points, but missed a big shot with eight ticks left.
