Terence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride and Jimmy Cobb are amongst some of the musicians joining forces tonight to celebrate the work of jazz greats Miles Davis and Gil Evans. Tonight's performance will feature music from collaborative works by the two greats, including the highly acclaimed Sketches of Spain, Miles Ahead and Porgy and Bess. One night only, starting at 8 PM at the Hollywood Bowl.

Hardcore classic film geeks (ourselves included) now have a place to go as Turner Classic Movies aka TCM has launched a fan site that includes social networking doo-dads, video clips, and rare photos. --- Fans of "The Shield" will be eagerly anticipating the next effort from series creator Shawn Ryan, an hour-long comedic private investigator series called "Terriers" co-penned by "Ocean's Eleven" writer Ted Griffin. The pilot has been green-lighted/lit? by FX but no word on air date.

Last Wednesday Zune Space LA in partnership with Sony Music's Icon Collectibles presented "The Genius of Miles Davis - the Columbia Years". The photography exhibit contained works by Don Hunstein, Bob Cato, Sandy Speisner, Charles Reilly and Urve Kuusik.

Last night Zume hosted the opening of a photographic exhibit celebrating "The Genius of Miles Davis...The Columbia Years". Musicians from all genres packed the club, a testament to the wide-ranging influence of Miles Davis. Stay tuned for our upcoming photo essay. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, Blue Drums® in conjunction with Miles Davis Properties, LLC unveiled a limited-edition snare drum at the Vic Firth booth during the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) convention last Saturday in Anaheim. Only fifty (50) Kind of Blue (KOB) 50th Anniversary snare drums are being produced by Blue Drums® in association with Miles Davis Properties, LLC.

Before he was old enough to rent a car, trumpeter Christian Scott had garnered a Grammy nomination, played alongside Prince, appeared on the big screen with George Clooney and earned countless accolades from fellow musicians, industry heavyweights and members of the media alike. The 25 year-old New Orleans native who has been called "the new voice in jazz trumpet" and "a young talent on the rise" recently released his third album Live at Newport. Recorded at the renowned Newport Jazz Festival, Scott masterfully performs new material along with songs from his sophomore album Anthem and Grammy nominated debut Rewind That. Scott, who is in town for a series of shows at the Catalina Jazz Club tonight through Saturday, took some time to speak with LAist.

I've always been intrigued by other "best of" lists, but this year I decided to take it to a whole new level. I e-mailed a handful of bands that I've seen this past year in order to unearth what exactly captivated them in '07. As music listeners, it is our duty to take a keen interest in our favorite musician's influences. After all, they rocked our little world, might as well see what rocked their little world. Joe Zawinul was perhaps the most innovative of the creative leaders of "jazz fusion."
