A memorial service for 17-year-old Lily Burk, who was murdered late last month while out running errands for her mother, was held last night in Barnsdall Art Park. About 500 people gathered to remember the short life of the Los Feliz teen, according to the LA Times, who was remembered through "song, poetry and heartbreaking tributes."

Scalpers Disciplined by Police at Jackson Memorial

Police quickly surrounded a man who was allegedly scalping on the corner of Figueroa and Olympic in front of the only major crowd outside L.A. LIve. Once in handcuffs, the crowd cheered as he was escorted into the security perimeter to a detainee holding area. A security guard placed on the rooftop of the Grammy Museum and Club Nokia said he had witnessed various people throughout the morning get arrested for the same thing.

Funeral for LAPD Deputy Chief Garner to be Held Today

Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner was a 31-year veteran of the force and one of their highest-ranking black officers. Garner will be laid to rest today, reports cbs2.com. The 53-year-old died suddenly at home on March 1, and the cause of death has not been released. He "started with the LAPD in 1977 and was most recently promoted to commander of the South Bureau, which included the 77th Street, Southwest, South and Harbor stations and South Traffic Division." Garner's memorial service takes place at 10 a.m. at Faith Dome-Sanctuary in Crenshaw, followed by internment at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier.

Sparked by the unsolved 1998 murder of Rita Hester, the Transgender Day of Remembrance has grown from a little candlelight vigil on the streets of San Francisco to a worldwide memorial in major cities across the world. This Thursday marks the 10-year anniversary of that event and the city of West Hollywood will celebrate it with a reception, memorial service and a 9 p.m. candlelight march that will travel west on Santa Monica Boulevard to the Matthew Sheppard Square at the intersection of Santa Monica and Crescent Heights where a memorial service will encourage members of the transgender community to take a stand for their rights.

Reports are surfacing this morning of a secret memorial service held last night in Westwood for Heath Ledger, who was found dead earlier this week in a New York apartment.
