TV Junkie: Pacitti Yanked from 'Idol'; Oscar Broadcast News; FOX Fridays

Controversial contestant Joanna Pacitti has finally been pulled from "American Idol" after it was revealed that she had friendships with multiple executives with "Idol" co-producer 19 Entertainment. For fans of the show who couldn't believe that she had made the cut after performing poorly and fumbling lyrics to several songs during the Hollywood rounds of auditions, it will be assumed that she had moved ahead due to these personal relationships and not merit.

The folks at Barnes and Noble at the Americana "shopping experience" in Glendale are bracing for the Monday arrival of Martha Stewart. The lifestyle guru will be on hand to sign copies of her latest cookbook, Martha Stewart’s Cooking School: Lessons and Recipes for the Home Cook.

Last night TLC's "I Can Make You Thin" had some good ideas in it but it felt and looked like a frickin' Ronco infomercial. Did anyone watch "John Adams" on HBO? How about Parker Posey in "The Return of Jezebel James" on Friday night? For a St. Paddy's Day themed show tonight, check out the "Ghost Hunters" repeat on SciFi at 9:00pm.

The season 3 premiere of FX's It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is the pick of the night. This is arguably Danny DeVito's best work since L.A. Confidential and his best comedy work in almost 20 years. While it's true that since it's cable the cast can say "shit" and "asshole" but that's not a gimmick the show relies on too much. What the show does follow is what made Seinfeld a success - it's a...

A Word or 49: Iggy Pop redeems Jimmy Kimmel tonight. For petessake when is the stupid 'house' gimmick ever gonna end on House? (new one tonight) I'm rockin' the slot with the Shield tonight though - now that Vic seems to be in the clear perhaps we're just back to some stellar violence. Today - Tuesday - April 24th, 2007 Rita Hayworth Marathon (TCM, 5- p.m.) Starting with Pal Joey, then Salome, etc. Check...

Not a TOTAL lie, as Irve Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Jr. actually was found not guilty of one of the 5 charges leveled against him. FoxNews.com has regressed from the "fair and balanced" schtick to an even more ridiculous "We report. You Decide." Now that's pretty commanding when spoken by apes. Anyway, for those of you keeping score at home, the Libby trial has gone the Martha Stewart route, as in, he lost, although he...

A Word or 48: House was pretty good last night and the timing was great what with the blizzard hitting New England today. With the semifinalists declared on Idol and Paula Abdul declaring that she's never been drunk in her life, I get the feeling that show is really coming along now. Today - Wednesday - February 14th, 2007 Breakfast at Tiffany's (TCM, 4:05 p.m.) Holly Golightly, not the band Beauty and the Geek...

- Katie Couric to her critics: "Bite Me." - People - Laker Fans to Britney Spears when her face appeared on the jumbotron: "Boooooooo!" - Pop Sugar - Vincent Gallo to women who want to have sex with him: "Heavy-set, older red-heads and even black chicks can have me if they can pay the bill ($100,000). No real female will be refused." - d listed - Famous rock photographer Ross Halfin on Eddie and...

Tonight - Wednesday If I could do it all or if you could convince me otherwise: "College Basketball" (Fox Sports, 7:30 p.m.) Kansas State @ California "NBA Basketball" (PRIME, 7:30 p.m.) Grizzlies @ Clippers "Woman On Top" (IFC, 6:00 p.m.) The best position and Penelope Cruz's career establishing flick. "Great Performances: A Tribute to James Taylor" (PBS, 8:00 p.m.) Just as corny all these years later. "Jericho" (CBS, 8 p.m.) Last episode until Feb....

The last of the candy corn has been nibbled from our plastic jack-o-lanterns which means only one thing: time to lay off the weed, er, it's Christmas Gift-Buying Time.

We heard that domestic goddess Martha Stewart will be building homes somewhere in the LA area as part of a new joint venture with KB Homes. The first experiment of these miniature copies of Martha’s homes was tested in Cary, NC, where KB built 650 casas de Stewart, and 3,800 prospective buyers jumped at the chance to live like a millionaire ex-con maven.

Howard Stern signed off broadcast radio Friday and is taking a 2-week vacation before doing his thing, FCC-free, on Sirius satellite radio. We aren't regular listeners, but the LA Times' Meghan Daum, who says she flips back and forth between NPR and Stern in the mornings, sure appreciates him. When we wrote about Stern's decision to jump to Sirius in 2004, one LAist reader was skeptical about the company lasting this long. Well, stranger things have happened.

It can be tough for a citizen of LA to get into the holiday swing. Since the welcomed downturn in temperatures this past week we've been happy to wrap ourselves in scarves and sweaters, and despite that odd post-Thanksgiving disconnect, we've even gotten a ton of holiday gift shopping under our belts. Heck, we've even been using the heat in our apartment! But nothing says warm and fuzzy--no matter that the palm trees are a-swayin' outside--like homemade cookies.

Pinzi-what-io? That's what we said last year around this time when we were flipping though the pages of our beloved Martha Stewart Living magazine and landed on a big, glossy, autumn-hued spread about an Italian-style Thanksgiving feat. The appetizer jumped out at us because it was colorful, fresh, different, and not fried or stuffed with greasy meat as many appetizers tend to be. Pinzimonio is actually the name for the olive-oil dip that goes with the vegetables in this dish; the trouble with recipes like this one is that for every one you copy down or print out there are a thousand variants--a pinch of this, a dash of that, a drop of what-have-you. Maybe that's not so much trouble as one sure fire way you can personalize the recipe to your occasion. We first tried the appetizer out at last year's small family Thanksgiving, and it made such a beautiful presentation and pleasant palate-warmer that we took the idea North with us and across the border for our bigger family Christmas gathering, and it went over like gangbusters with young and old alike. We've somehow managed to lose that shiny strip of magazine that we cut out and carried with us, so we'll give you the rough sketch of what goes in a Pinzimonio appetizer...but remember, you can feel free to put your own signature on it.

We here at LAist are unabashed fans of Halloween. It is the one holiday that inspires us to go completely Martha Stewart, from homemade decorations and yummy punches to fresh-baked goodies for guests and ghouls alike who come along for the celebration. This year, besides the Skewered Tortellini with Lemon-Parmesan Creme Fraiçhe, Marinated Mozzarella and Pomegranate Punch, we wanted to entice our guests with something sweet: Pumpkin-Gingerbread Cupcakes with Maple Cream Cheese Icing.

We're not ashamed to admit that we considered Martha Stewart getting out of jail a "good thing." And, yes, that's a stack of her Living magazine over there--we subscribe! So it should come as no surprise that the debut of her new daytime syndicated show was something we were looking forward to. In this new television enterprise, Martha hosts a sort of household variety hour--cooking, crafting, and gardening, all in the spirit of prettying life up a bit. The show is done in front of a studio audience, and is broadcast live in some regions (not ours, alas). And of course her celebrity friends are scheduled to drop by to provide her with someone to chat with while making, oh, let's say hand painted wrapping paper, like she did with buddy Diddy last week: Rapping whilst wrapping. It's a good thing, dammit!

A new season is here. And we’re not talking about the crisper fall-ish weather of late. Or even football. LAist is ready for the fall TV lineup. So bring it on.
