Mark Peel has been hosting his famous Monday Night Dinners at Campanile for over ten years. Served family-style, everyone eats the same meal. Not only is the serving style homey, but the dishes are typical home-cooked comfort food, raised just one notch higher by Peel's deft hand. The co-author of New Classic Family Dinners, Martha Rose Shulman shadowed the chef in the kitchen, measuring the ingredients as he cooked. The recipes didn't need too much fussing with, as most of them originated in the home kitchen.

On Monday nights, Campanile has been serving the super-popular "Family Dinner", a three-course meal served family style. The dinners highlight Mark Peel's take on comfort foods. Someone finally got him to publish a cookbook of Monday night recipes and co-authored the book with him.

In spite of the occasionally cringe-worthy dishes on Top Chef and the bumbling and blubbering of Hell's Kitchen, you know you're insanely jealous of those judges. Well, now you have the opportunity to eat like the judges--yes, even the actual recipes they picked apart like bits of carrion on the small screen.

It breaks our hearts that the Top Chef Master can't be hometown heroes Suzanne Tracht, Ludovic Lefebvre, Michael Cimarusti or Mark Peel. The show made us fall even more in love with Mark Peel, if that is even possible. Among the final four, Rick Bayless is definitely a fan favorite. Not to burn Anita Lo, Michael Chiarello or Hubert Keller, who we kind of want to sleep with even though we know he'd probably be a cad afterwards. Wait, did I just say that out loud?

Yesterday Jonathan Gold moderated the Carnivore! panel at the LA Weekly Festival held at The Ricardo Montalban Theater. The panel consisted of Mark Peel, Octavio Becerra, Susan Feniger and Vinny Dotolo. The panel members were not only representative of some of the finest chefs in LA, but they were well-informed, witty, and thoughtful. It seemed like everyone in the room, including the panelists, walked away with something of value.

The LA Weekend hosted by The LA Weekly and sponsored by Nike has a wide variety of free events happening at The Ricardo Montalban Theater tonight and tomorrow, including music, film, dance, readings, book signings, and even a visit from the Kogi Korean taco truck.
