Earlier this month, local record label Manimal Vinyl (see our interview last year with its founder) held its 2nd Annual Manimal Festival at Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace. "In its second year, the two-day event showcases bands on Paul Beahan's record label... alongside musically bohemian peers," described Daiana Feuer from Papermag. "Manimal's experimental pop catalog -- which began most notably by releasing Bat For Lashes' record two years ago -- lends a unified voice to freak folk and its close cousins, many which are collected on yearly tribute albums to Madonna, The Cure, and in 2010, David Bowie. Manimal's focus mainly follows two streams: The ethereal, spooky soloist tradition [and] the dance beat, taking pop to strange outer space."

We'll tell you who's back on TV tonight: Madonna on Letterman. Yeah, there's other stuff happening on late night TV but nothing will hold a candle to the anticipation of more antics between Madonna and Letterman.

Talk about a show explosion! Tonight Madonna will be entertaining the masses at Dodger Stadium. NY-based rock band Coheed and Cambria (LAist Review) will begin a series of shows at the Avalon in which they play each of their four albums in their entirety—tonight they'll be revisiting 2002's The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Local blues-rock band Rumspringa (LAist Review) will be playing at the Viper Room for the Day of the Living Party. And just about every music blogger and their mother will be in attendance at 3 of Clubs tonight, where SF natives Birds & Batteries and the Blacks will be performing. But the real tough choice of the night is between the Happy Hollows' (LAist Review, #2) EP Release Event at the Echo and TV on the Radio (LAist Review) at the Wiltern. The former certainly affords a bevy of superb lesser-known acts, like LBC's the Soft Hands and our personal favorite, Austin-by-way-of-Dallas the Strange Boys (LAist Review, #2). However, we can't deny the latter's latest effort, 2008's Dear Science. So head on over to the Wiltern to catch the buzzworthy Brooklyn-based indie rock quintet.

Remember that one time Madonna and Britney Spears made out in front of millions of people, and more importantly Brit's ex Justin Timberlake. Before the new Tila Tequila MTV where girl-on-girl kissing is encouraged, preferably in front of parents.

Last night Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by none other than Justin Timberlake. In another unusual spin, she chose The Stooges, fronted by Iggy Pop to perform two of her hits, "Burning Up" and "Ray of Light.". Stooges bass player and occasional LAist contributor Mike Watt rocks out in the above clip. It's Monday and that means it's a big residency night in Los Angeles. And since it's the first Monday of March, that means a new list of Monday night bands below.

When Sharon Stone wears a gown that looks like she's been shot or Lindsay Lohan goes out in public in an insanely sheer dress, Mr. Blackwell considers their candidacy for his annual top 10 worst dressed. Countless actresses and singers made questionable wardrobe choices in 2007. The overexposed, the under-dressed, and the over-the-top take center stage in this yearly ritual. Tomorrow Mr. Blackwell, the well-known fashion critic and designer, will unveil his 48th Annual Worst-Dressed Women list. In media, saturation is key. This weekend in Los Angeles, there are two storms wrecking their havoc on our city; one of them involves buckets of rain, and the other involves Britney Spears. Both of them are causing different kinds of deluges.

KITSCH: The Charles Phoenix Holiday Jubilee returns to REDCAT for the next four evenings. LA kitsch expert Charles Phoenix brings together an evening of live comedy, including the Bob Baker Marionettes, roller rink organist Dominic Cangelosi and a few other surprises. The entertainment's all in combination with his "Retro Holiday Slide Show," comprised of slides he found at area thrift shops and flea markets.

Everybody's doing it, right? I don't pretend to be hip or edgy or rebellious. First things first: Michael Ian Black released his CD, I'm A Wonderful Man, on September 25th and it's very very funny, check it out HERE. Banner week for SFist as the site's new editor introduced himself -- hooray for Brock! The greatest surprise performance at the 24-hour Live Earth was not Kanye West and John Mayer joining the Police on "Message in a Bottle." Hell, no. The festival kicks off this morning with a director's coffee talk at the Landmark. Scheduled panelists include moderator James Mangold, Paul Haggis and the next Bond director Marc Forster. Tickets are $11. The big event today (and it's free!) starts at noon and runs until 6:00 p.m. at the Landmark Regent Theater. It's Live Earth Day: A Celebration of Earth and includes 50 short films commissioned by SOS-Live Earth. Some of the filmmakers who've contributed are Roman Coppola, Rob Reiner, Chad Lowe, Casey Affleck and Madonna (Madonna?). If you can't attend the afternoon showings, another free Live Earth program kicks off at 8:30 p.m. at the Festival Promenade on Broxton.
