LA Lakers defeat Charlotte Bobcats 99-97. It took more than four years, but the Lakers finally beat the Bobcats again at home. It was another choppy game, but this time the Lakers didn’t cede the lead at the end of the game. Lamar Odom led the Lakers in scoring with 19 points while Andrew Bynum had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant after setting the scoring mark on Monday scored a measly five points thanks to tweaking his ankle after getting tied up with Odom who has a penchant for being involved in his teammates’ injuries. Stephen Jackson scored 30 for the Cats while Nazr Mohammed filled in nicely for an absent Gerald Wallace with 23 points. This win now gives coach Phil Jackson the most wins for a Lakers coach. more ›

Memphis Grizzlies defeat LA Lakers 95-93. Kobe Bryant’s 44 point effort made him the Lakers all time leading scorer. All that was for naught as sloppy play and turnovers gave the Grizzlies the win. On their final game of an eight game road trip and coming off of an emotional win in Boston Sunday afternoon, it seemed natural for a letdown to occur. more ›
LA Lakers defeat Indiana Pacers 118-96. Things looked dicey for the champs on their Grammy tour in the first half. The Pacers came out with a small lineup and really pushed the tempo. Either that or the Lakers were feeling a bit sluggish after their dismantling of the Washington Wizards the previous night. Either way they went into the locker room at half time with only a three point advantage. But the boys woke up in the second half with a huge dose of Andrew Bynum. Bynum scored 27 points while grabbing 12 boards. Even Kobe Bryant who had 29 points seemed to defer to Bynum at times. Pau Gasol added 21 points and 13 rebounds while Lamar Odom rounded out with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Lakers now head over to Philly on Friday for a warmup to their mondo mega death match against the Boston Celtics. more ›
LA Lakers defeat Washington Wizards 115-103. Perhaps meeting President Obama yesterday did the Lakers some good as they demolished the Wizards. Then again with the turmoil going on with the Wizards it shouldn’t have been that hard to beat them. But the Lakers came up struggling in the first quarter just taking a one-point lead after one quarter. The bench came in the second quarter and ratcheted up the defense holding the Wiz to 15 points while going up by 16 at the half. While the Lakers relaxed a little in the second half, the Wiz couldn’t dig out of the hole they dug themselves. Wizards forward Antawn Jamison led all scorers with 27 points while Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both got 26 points with Gasol adding 10 rebounds. Shannon Brown energized the Lakers from the bench scoring 11 points and getting three steals. The Lakers, now 2-2 on this road trip, move on to Indianapolis tomorrow for a game against the Pacers. more ›
Boston Celtics defeat LA Clippers 95-89. Glen “Big Baby” Davis told reporters on Monday that he doesn’t like his moniker. Well given that he was fined $25,000 for shouting obscenities at a fan in Detroit last week and getting into a fight that forced him to miss the first 27 games this season, you can’t say that his nickname is well deserved. And his two points, two rebounds and two fouls in 15 minutes against the Clippers doesn’t help any either. The Clippers got balanced scoring from their players with six players scoring double figures led by Rasual Butler’s 17 points. Marcus Camby added 14 boards in their effort to sweep the season series against the Celtics. After leading at halftime by a point, the Clippers fell to the Celtics in the beginning of the third quarter when the Celtics jumped out to an eight point lead. The Clippers hampered by their 38.8% shooting couldn’t come back. The Clips get a day off before they get to discover the Jersey Shore and the 3-40 Nets. more ›
LA Lakers defeat Dallas Mavericks 100-95. Well the Lakers didn’t heed my suggestion in resting players. Kobe, Ron Artest and Sasha Vujacic played. The starting front court each had a double-double with Andrew Bynum getting 22 points and 11 boards, Lamar Odom with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Ron Artest with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Farmar also came up big with 12 crucial points leading the bench while Kobe was sitting out most of the game. While Dirk Nowitzki got his 20,000th point, the 34th player in NBA history to do so, the Lakers became the first NBA franchise to get their 3,000th victory. While the Lakers did look to have the game in the bag, the Mavs managed to tie the game at 95-95 with 42 seconds left in the game. But Kobe, even ailing, made a clutch jumper from the right elbow as the shot clock was expiring. Despite playing some bad defense, the Lakers did manage to make the lead stick. more ›
With all the nonsense going on at Heritage Hall, it has been very easy to overlook the Lakers. After all it’s the middle of the NBA season that really doesn’t get heated up until March. Hell just win at a steady clip and no one in LA will notice. more ›
LA Clippers defeat LA Lakers 102-91. Tenth time’s the charm. After the Lakers had defeated the Clippers for nine straight games, the Clippers wouldn’t take it anymore. While Baron Davis led the Clippers with 25 points and 10 assists, the Clippers distributed the ball very well with five players in double-digit scoring. Chris Kaman won the battle of the bigs against Andrew Bynum with 21 points, 14 boards and two assists. While the Clippers held a lead for most of the game, the Lakers came back to tie the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter. With the game tied at 83-83 with seven minutes remaining, the Clippers went on a 19-8 run to end the game. Those who are surprised the Clippers beat the Lakers haven’t watched a Clippers game. While they’re not great, they play all four quarters. more ›
Things this weekend was just downright ugly. With NFL teams playing half-assed, USC’s self-flagellation and Pau Gasol going down with another hamstring injury for the Lakers, this weekend was just one long comedown from the high of the New Year. Those NFL games were perhaps the most unwatchable exhibitions seen in a long time. While some teams simply rested their starters after the first quarter, other teams fearing fan and media backlash experienced by the Colts last week left their starters in but used the most vanilla plays in their playbooks. Look at these scores: more ›
Everywhere you go, there’s a hell of a lot of sentimentality going on. Best of 2009 lists, best of the decade lists despite the fact that the decade doesn’t end until this year. It’s just a bunch of mushy nostalgia served to cheapen the events that actually happened. As Thom Yorke crooned on “Let Down” on OK Computer, “Don’t get sentimental it always ends up drivel.” more ›
LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 124-118. Yet again the Lakers defense was helpless against an uptempo offense, however thanks to another superhuman effort by Kobe Bryant with 44 points and a season high 11 assists the Lakers offense saved the day. The Warriors held the edge on fast break points at 30-9 while the Lakers barely outscored the Warriors in the paint 46-44. While this game goes in the win column, these last four games have been nothing to write home about. Not to sound the alarm or anything. more ›
Phoenix Suns defeat LA Lakers 118-103. Bad defense and bad shooting lost the game for the Lakers. While the Lakers overpowered the Suns in both games at the Staples Center earlier this season, the Suns defended the paint giving the Lakers’ bigs problems all night. The Suns torched the Lakers in the second half leading by as much as 22 points. While Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 34 points, Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 26 points and six boards. With Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, George Lopez and Mrs. Lamar Odom to watch the destruction, the Lakers are now tied with the Phoenix Suns for best record in the West. more ›
Real Salt Lake defeats LA Galaxy 1-1, 5-4 PK. 120 minutes couldn’t decide who would win the MLS Cup, so they went to penalty kicks. In penalties Galaxy captain Landon Donovan waited to kick in the fourth round. He inexplicably missed the shot way over the crossbar. While Josh Saunders was able to save Andy Williams’ kick in the fifth round, if Donovan had made his kick the Galaxy would have been crowned. The Galaxy owned Salt Lake in the first half culminating in Mike Magee’s goal in the 41st minute assisted by Donovan and David Beckham. Salt Lake took over in the second half with a score in the 64th minute by former Galaxy player Robbie Findley. LA Lakers defeat Chicago Bulls 108-93. In Pau Gasol’s first game with the Lakers this season, the team looked completely different. It helped that Gasol played like he missed no time scoring six of the Lakers’ first seven points. He led all scorers with 24 points and 13 rebounds. It did cut into Andrew Bynum’s numbers a little who scored 11 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes. Derek Fisher in 34 minutes scored 0 points going 0-for-5 from the field. Now for some good news. Pau Gasol could return to the starting lineup on Friday in Memphis. more ›
Maybe it’s the Dodgers’ turn to be champs. The sold-out Dodgers Stadium faithful vibrantly acted that way throughout last night’s 3:56 almost-marathon, which saw the Los Angeles Dodgers take the first game of the National League Division Series from the Saint Louis Cardinals. The Lakers felt that way too. The reigning NBA kings pledged their adoration for the Dodgers, and shared a slice of the city’s goodwill toward them, by participating in a series of rah-rah Go Dodgers! videos, shown on the left field jumbotron. more ›
