Tonight local country troubadour Mike Stinson will be performing at Redwood Bar & Grill in Downtown. LA-based indie rock trio Les Blanks are poised to play the Silver Lake Lounge. And, lastly, Jockpit, which features members of No Age, Friends Forever and Kyle H. Mabson, will be making noise at the Smell. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch Brighton-based krautrockers Fujiya & Miyagi. English psych pop singer-songwriter Pop Levi is slated to kick the show off.
Tonight local indie rockers the Voyeurs will be ringing in their debut full-length at the Echo with LAist favorites the Monolators (LAist Review, #2), Go West Young Man and Les Blanks. The exemplary English electro-pop trio will be thumping out a steady stream of synth lines and beats at both Temporary Spaces and Cinespace.
Interview - The Voyeurs On The Cougars of Hermosa Beach, Their New Album, and Fraudulent Australians
Drummer and one half of the two man band the Voyeurs, Sean Johnson is shopping for a pilates DVD. Not for himself, but for his girlfriend so they can try it together. We're at a Target in Eagle Rock trying to decide between the core version or the one for weight loss. The other half of the Voyeurs, Jonathan Hylander is checking out the yoga balls. Not for yoga, but to bounce around the house. He thinks Sean should just buy a set of four DVDs and figure out which ones he likes best.
Tonight LA-based free jazz outfit the Nels Cline Singers will be performing at Largo at the Coronet. Scottish rockers Glasvegas are slated to headline a sold-out show at the Troubadour. And, lastly, a handful of great locals, including Les Blanks, Death to Anders and the Soft Hands, will be rocking out at the rather drab bar Three Clubs in Hollywood. But we strongly recommend heading over to the Airliner in Downtown to catch Brooklyn-by-way-of-LA electronic maestro Eliot Lipp and his live band Lipp Service.
Tonight LA will be commandeered by female singer-songwriters. New Orleans-based "one-woman band" Theresa Andersson (LAist Interview) is slated to headline the Hotel Café. And Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter Sara Lov will be continuing her Tuesday Night Residency at Spaceland. In other non-female-fronted news, LA-based indie rockers Pop Noir will be kicking things into gear at the Echoplex. And, lastly, Les Blanks and a handful of talented locals, including LAist favorites One Trick Pony, are poised to put on a free show at the Echo. But we strongly suggest checking into the Dakota Lounge to catch the talented and lovely Mia Doi Todd.
Tonight LA locals Seasons and Les Blanks will be rocking out at Echo Curio. We accidentally listed it yesterday and, in actuality, it will go down tonight. The Keyclub will play host to the Houston-based hip hop artist Devin the Dude, who is currently touring in support of 2008's Landing Gear. LA-based indie rockers Voxhaul Broadcast and Local Natives will be in Downtown for the Zero Film Festival. And, lastly, it will be a rather Canadian affair tonight at Spaceland with indie folk rockers the Acorn and Ohbijou. But we could never pass up a chance to see Greg Gillis practically destroy a reinforced Toughbook laptop with his rigorous sampling. Anyone who is anyone will be at the Henry Fonda Music Box for Girl Talk.
Tonight Thes One and Double K, the self-proclaimed B-boys of People Under The Stairs, will be playing a short and early set at Amoeba Records in support of their forthcoming 2008 LP, Fun DMC. And, lastly, NY-based folk songstress Dar Williams will be performing at the El Rey with her latest effort, Promised Land, in tow. But we strongly suggest that you head over to the Henry Fonda Music Box. Perennial post-rockers Stereolab will be accompanied by lo-fi champion Richard Swift. Both artists will be performing new material from their latest albums—Chemical Chords and Richard Swift as Onasis respectively.
Earlier this month, local band The Sweet Hurt (MySpace) celebrated the release of their EP with a release party at Pehrspace (MySpace) in Echo Park, with Evan Slamka from Marjorie Fair (MySpace), Liz Pappademas (MySpace), and Alex Lilly from Obi Best (MySpace), formerly known as Colorforms (MySpace).
