Good kitsch is hard to find these days. But not at Ghettogloss tonight because it’s the Allee Willis Museum of Kitsch Closing Karaoke Night from 7-11 pm. On display are hundreds of artifacts from her personal kitsch collection. There’s going to be a karaoke sing-off of Allee's classic Earth Wind & Fire hit, "September," at the party ("Do you remember...the 21st night of September...?") plus other surprises.

Leonard Cohen owns the stage at the Nokia Theater. Cohen is dapper in his grey suit, fedora and bolo tie, a look few men can pull off without it being obvious they are trying too hard. Cohen does not fit the suit. The suit fits him. He looks like he would be equally at home in either a smoky bookie joint or at the high rollers table.

LAist favorites the Happy Hollows are poised to headline the Regent Theatre with a slew of like-minded Los Angelenos, including Devon Williams, Rainbow^Arabia and Blank Blue, to benefit local radio station KXLU. Local indie rockers Anglos will be ringing in their debut EP at El Cid with Go West Young Man. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet. Not only will recently-reunited Jayhawks' front men Mark Olson and Gary Louris be gracing the main room with Teddy Thompson, but Boston-based ex-Candy Butcher front man Mike Viola will be playing in the Little Room.

If you didn't see Tell No One in the theater last year, go out and immediately buy or rent the best movie released in the U.S. in 2008. Rarely does a film set up such a fantastical premise and deliver on it so perfectly. Slumdog Millionaire never deserved the mini-backlash it received. Based on its kinetic cinematography alone, it was one of the best films of the year. Sure, Dev Patel's performance was a little flat (ok, very flat), but Freida Pinto was absolutely luminous and the child actors were a revelation. As for Marley & Me and Seven Pounds...skip and skip. Spend your money on the great Leonard Cohen or any of these comedy specials.

Mon 5/8 – The Submarines / Goldspot @ Viper Room ($10) – The Submarines debut album doesn’t come out until 6/20 but you can sample some tracks on their website or on Myspace. The album has call and response boy/girl lyrics about the two singers’ relationship (both the breakup and reunion). The electronic blips call to mind the Stars and some Folk Implosion. Her voice is in the neighborhood of the woman from Mates of State. Goldspot is a big Nic Harcourt band. If you prefer underground rap go see Soul Position at the Echo.
