The start of ice hockey action in L.A. usually serves as reminder to Angelenos that although the weather might still be nice outside, summer is indeed over. This year, however, the L.A. Kings have something special in store for fans and they don't have to wait until fall to enjoy it. It was a party atmosphere at Staples Center on Thursday night, with Bailey the mascot and all of the new LA Kings Ice Girls dressed in Halloween costumes. Unfortunately, the Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo wasn't in the mood to give the Kings any "treats" and stopped every shot they sent his way. Memphis Tigers defeat UCLA Bruins 78-63. Memphis was too much for UCLA. While the Bruins kept it manageable for most of the game, the Tigers turned up the gear in the final five minutes to send the Bruins home. Darren Collison scored only two points before fouling out in the second half, and the Bruins couldn't get the ball to Kevin Love. Memphis will face Kansas Monday night in the championship game.

If you watch television or read the newspaper today, or if you did those things yesterday, it seems to us that something is missing. The newspaper will tell you about holiday sales, the television will show you stories about Christmas trees that catch fire, or recipes to make low-fat desserts, but there's very little, if any, stories about Jesus, the reason for most of our celebrations this time of year. Some differences between LA and Toronto: the traffic in LA is lighter, it's cheaper to eat out in LA, they can name more LA Kings than we can....

Now he truly belongs... as one of the All-Time greats in King and NHL history, as he passed Marcel Dionne to become the Kings greatest goal scorer in franchise history.
