JetModern to Set Sights on Preservation-worthy LA Design

Seth Tinkham is a correspondent for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and he's taken a JetBlue 30-day All-You-Can-Jet Pass and a laptop on the road--or to the skies, rather--on a tour dubbed the JetModern, aimed at spotlighting modernist design treasures in major US cities. His trip concludes next week here in Los Angeles, where he will visit buildings that exemplify the modernist style that are in need of some preservationist attention.

JetBlue to Land First LAX Flight This Morning

Popular low-cost carrier JetBlue debuts their new service to LAX this morning, as they are scheduled to land their inaugural flight from New York's JFK at 10:45. It's been a bit of a wait, however, for the airline to begin service from our major airport; today's launch comes after "a yearlong delay," caused by a period of soaring fuel prices that made cross-country air travel costly, reports the Daily Breeze.

JetBlue CEO and LGB Director Bond Over Burgers, While Long Beach City Gov't Bashes Bloggers

It all started with a blogger: Last week news broke that budget airline JetBlue was thinking of pulling out of Long Beach Airport (LGB) after their CEO said as much to the blogger behind Crankyflier.com. Although formal meetings are on the books for LGB's Director, Mario Rodriguez, and JetBlue CEO Dave Barger back east later this month, the pair wound up having an impromptu lunch at In-N-Out Burger on Thursday.

JetBlue Comes to LAX!

JetBlue announced this morning that they will begin offering two daily nonstop flights each way between LAX and JFK in New York City and Logan International in Boston. Tickets will go on sale February 4th with flights beginning on June 17.

Here's a way to advertise your product by making news. Yeah, we're suckers, but you should know, it possibly could be worth it. Jet Blue has announced that they're auctioning off flights on eBay with prices starting at 5-cents. Their graphic promises trips from Burbank, but their Southern California eBay page is only displaying Long Beach trips so far with seven trips total to Washington D.C., Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.

Score one for the passengers: budget airline carrier JetBlue is announcing that they will begin service between LAX and airports in New York and Boston this May. They also have plans to increase service from their Burbank and Long Beach locations, meaning more flights for consumers to choose from, which will increase competition with other carriers (like Southwest) and thereby lower airfares. They'll now be flying to JFK Int'l three times a day, and Boston's Logan Int'l once a day.

A London vacation for $900 -- airfare and hotel? Cancun for $500? I got an email alert this morning about big after-holiday airfare sales -- and as a frequent traveler who is often frustrated by the price of airline tickets, I jumped at the chance to research some sweet mid-winter vacations.

Sir Richard Branson's SFO-based harem of nubile air carriages wants you on board. First-class Virgin tickets are also offered at the introductory price of $149 each way. While numerous airlines have been grounded, bought out, or...

We Love BUR! Jet Blue is seen as a major force behind 2006 being the best year for Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. "With 5.7 million passengers, the Burbank airfield had an increase of 3.2 percent in passengers from last year." Do you have State Farm Insurance? Your rates might be finally going down. (SFV Biz Journal, Registration Required [but worth it, it's free])

The low-cost carrier JetBlue (which flies out of Burbank and Long Beach) was voted America's best low-cost carrier, and we couldn't agree more. What better way to fly than with leather seats and satellite television?

For a woman who claims to hate liberals so much, Ann Coulter has sure hung around lefty-lovin' Los Angeles lots lately.

Today Jet Blue Flight 292 departed at 3:17pm from Bob Hope Airport. While in flight, the Airbus A320 (with 145 passengers) experienced a nose gear malfunction.

Air traffic controllers subsequently instructed the crew the to dump fuel over the ocean. Apparently pilots were unable to do so. Instead they're flying low and burning off fuel before attempting an emergency landing (either at LAX or Long Beach Airport).

Update:
At 6:20pm Pacific time, the airplane landed safely.

Of course, how this all came about is worth examining. Since the Burbank Airport always seems to have its toes treading in the community hot water with concerns over expansion and noise, JetBlue was only able to get in the gates thanks to Aloha Airlines' bankruptcy filing, and their April move-out of Terminal A, which leaves room for the the new Blue kid and their NY-bound fights. Also, since JetBlue seems to dislike LAX as much as we do--they don't fly out of there, after all--this won't undercut their own business from the Southland to NYC and other destinations. JetBlue's three non-stop daily BUR to JFK flights begin in May, with a fourth departure time slated for July.

Recently, I have been doing some business in New York, and was not going to be able to make it to Los Angeles for the election. So, like I have done a few times in the past, I sent away for an absentee ballot. I've had absentee ballots sent to my home in LA, and college when I was out of state, and the ballot has always come in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, I see that the wags over at Gawker have taken another cliched shot at our swirling metropolis, claiming that the Ugg trend has recently hit L.A. after drifting in westward from the Lower East Side. This is no doubt a reference to a recent spate of Ugg cameraphone pics that have dotted some of the L.A. blogs lately.
