TV Junkie: A Very Sunny Night in Philadelphia; John Oliver Scores

We've reached Thursday which means it's comedy night topped by "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" on FX at 10pm providing some insight into how Dennis manages to score with so many women. We also had a chance to see the "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" Holiday special, "A Very Sunny Christmas": a 43 minute featurette that's been getting a lot of promo on FX the last couple weeks. If you're a fan, you have to get a hold of it, no question there, it's on DVD & Blu-ray at Amazon. What do you get: Danny DeVito nude and greased up; a supporting role from veteran actor David Huddleston; brilliant casting of "young" Mac, Charlie, Dennis, and Dee (they appear to have used cloning!); classic animation in the style of Rankin/Bass; a disturbing and surreal Christmas sing-a-long with the gang from Paddy's.

PaleyFest 2009 Preview: Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Horrible, True Blood, Pushing Daisies and More

This year's annual William S. Paley Television Festival (also known as PaleyFest) will feature some LAist favorites. The up close and personal television event is sponsored by the Paley Center for Media, and begins April 10 at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome. Tickets go on sale to the public Sunday at 9 a.m. and they're likely to sell out within 24 hours, if not sooner. Most PaleyFest events treat fans to clips from each program (sometimes never-before-seen material) and include a panel discussion with questions from a moderator and the audience. In addition, each panel page on the PaleyFest website now includes an option for fans to submit questions prior to the event. This year's lineup is a strong one and it features: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 90210, True Blood, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Dollhouse, The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, Desperate Housewives, Unaired Pushing Daisies Episodes, Battlestar Galactica, The Hills, Big Love, Fringe and Swingtown.

It's Thursday so it's got to be all about NBC, right? First of all, you've got Jan (Melora Hardin) from "The Office" going off to Broadway to do "Chicago", then you've got Jennifer Aniston (pictured, right) guest-starring on "30 Rock" (a triumphant return to NBC-Thursdays?), and then we see that NBC finally cancelled the oft-maligned but truly terrible, Christian Slater series, "My Own Worst Enemy" along with the equally terrible "Lipstick Jungle".

Barack Obama's win on Tuesday means that not only will there be a changing of the guard at the White House, but entire new teams of television reporters will be heading to Washington D.C. as well. Evidently reporters who did exceptionally well on the death march of a campaign trail will be rewarded with coveted D.C. assignments, but at this point the networks aren't issuing any specifics.

Tonight brings the highly anticipated (US) series premiere of "Life on Mars" on ABC. Is it just another gussied up time-traveler premised police procedural or does it have more substance? The Brits loved their version, let's see if the US one has legs. What it does have is Harvey Keitel in a supporting role on TV.
