For several shows at The Gibson Amphitheater, No Doubt played their fans favorite songs. The massive collection of instruments, white costumes with pops of black on a white geometric stage, and giant video screen of colorful imagery and films of Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, Adrian Young, Stephen Bradley, and Gabrial McNair added to the celebration.

Pop songstress Gwen Stefani can deliver the goods...and an 8lb 5oz baby boy. Zuma Nesta Rossdale was born yesterday afternoon here in Los Angeles at Cedars Sinai Hospital, according to CNN.com. Mom Stefani and baby are reportedly doing well. Zuma joins big brother Kingston, 2, and former Bush frontman and rocker Gavin Rossdale to make one more in the growing family of music and fashion movers and shakers.

Elvis Costello and The Attractions essential 1978 record This Year’s Model was re-released for the twenty-third time earlier this week as a deluxe 2-CD set. This year’s model of This Year’s Model includes a bevy of previously released bonus tracks, and a previously unreleased live concert.

For a band of two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old, Din Caliber has a huge sound that's quite exciting. And Linda Perry, record label owner/producer (credits include Gwen Stefani, Pink, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilara), has her eye on them. The home schooled trio practices four to five nights a week for four hours and has played the House of Blues and a few shows at the Whiskey A Go Go. Tonight they play the Knitting Factory on the Main Stage. Also of note tonight is the North Mississippi Allstars who mix punk, rock and down-home blues (it's quite lovely). They'll be sharing the stage tonight with the Drive-By Truckers at the Avalon.

As one blogger so delicately phrased it, "CMJ goes out with a whimper". There wasn't a whole lot I wanted to see on Day Five of CMJ. So I rested my weary bones, wandered around Williamsburg, and caught a couple of shows. One highlight was Ha Ha Tonka's performance at Union Pool in Williamsburg at a homey, jam-packed venue. I believe there was a BBQ going on as well. Williamsburg was lovely, flourishing with...

Common - "The People" "The People" was one of our most-played summer jamz. It was on Kanye's "Can't Tell Me Nothin" sampler because Kanye produced it and listen to how sweet it is. It's the sort of non-thug, uplifting, positive hip-hop that people once talked about, but now people are buying. This is the direction BEP could have gone if they hadn't chosen the path of the lowest common denominator aka the Gwen Stefani...

Summer has passed and acts such as Suzanne Vega, Tegan and Sara, M.I.A., Spoon, and Rilo Kiley have reclaimed the spotlight after significant hiatuses, but the year is far from over. It’s now time to look forward to albums on the horizon that look like winners already:

AM, Justin Hopkins, Population Game, Green Car Motel, Shotgun Honeymoon @ The Hotel Cafe

London-born rapper Lady Sovereign will bust her rhymes this Friday, June 22nd at Avalon's Club 82. It’s a “Live PA Performance,” so this should be a one-woman show, with no pre-recorded tracks. Lady Sov is known by some as the female Eminem (Feminem?) and has been opening for Gwen Stefani on her "Sweet Escape" Tour. She’s gained some notoriety for onstage antics- at a show in New York she told the crowd to “Fuck...

Singer/dancer/menswear icon Andre 3000 of Outkast will play singer/dancer/comedian Sammy Davis Jr. in a new biopic about the entertainer's romance with screen siren Kim Novak. Back in the mid-50s when quaint terms like "anti-miscegenation" were used to sugarcoat racist laws, Davis was an up-and-coming singer with a couple of albums under his belt, while Novak was a rising actress grinding her way through Columbia Studios' starlet machine. He had yet to join the Rat...

How would they fill up two hours in the American Idol finale? That was the question on LAist's mind tonight. (And we were particularly bummed since we had to give up the first hour of Lost for this!) Since the show seemed just as long as the Oscars, it was only fitting that AI had filler like the "Golden Idols" -- awards for the freaks during the early part of the show. Remember the...

We don't like to post rumors but we know you'd hate us if we sat on our hands as juicy stuff filled our In Boxes and we didn't let you know that something could be excellent. So now that Coachella has come and gone, we can admit to being wrong about Gwen Stefani being there, but be pleased that we told you that Scarlett Johansson would be singing with the Jesus and Mary Chain...

The Jesus and Mary Chain, Gogol Bordello, Bjork, Sonic Youth, Peaches, Arctic Monkeys, Stephen Marley, Of Montreal, Silversun Pickups, Satellite Party, Julieta Venegas, Noisettes, Amy Winehouse and others @ Coachella Gwen Stefani, Lady Sovereign @ Gibson Pigeon John @ Malibu Inn Grant Lee Phillips @ The Troubadour I See Hawks in L.A., Horsepainters, Amy Farris @ The Scene The Cinematics, The Heavenly States, Le Meu le Purr @ Spaceland Apes of the New Millennium,...

American Idol was only an hour and seven minutes tonight, which we think meant shorter songs clips and shorter packaged coaching segments with guest judge Gwen Stefani. And the shorter show was just fine with us because (1) most of these “Top 10” singers are good -- but they’re not great; (2) while the song choices were better than last week’s British Invasion, they were ripped right from the Adult Contemporary radio station playlists...

The first four American Idol contestants were booted last night. While we weren’t surprised at the girls (Amy Krebs left because of her vanilla on vanilla rendition of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and Nicole Tranquillo tried too hard to be Chaka Khan and Rufus all at once), the guys who left kinda did.

could no doubt or gwen stefani play Coachella As some of you may have noticed, I'm new to the LAist family. I love music and I am happy to provide music listings several times a week.

- Susan Anton totally ok during Malibu Fire - Defamer - Suzanne Somers, not so much - dlisted - Scooby Doo creator dies at 81 - KETV - Rosie O'Donnell and Barbara Walters are on the cover of the gossip pages. Bree McGuire, one of Buzznet's Content Editors, is surrounded by new music all day long. Buzznet was at dozens of music fests and events last year and is super tight with the emo superstars Fall Out Boy, which is why we were stoked that she agreed to tune us in to what she was tuned in to last year...

So if you don't feel like driving that hour+ to some party in the Valley, or to some party anywhere in Los Angeles, you can always turn on the TV. There's nothing like watching the 3-hour tape-delayed disco ball drop to reaffirm your existence. Tomorrow - Sunday - New Years Eve "Twilight Zone Marathon" (SciFi, ALL DAY) "Seinfeld Marathon" (TBS, ALL DAY) "Marx Brothers Marathon" (TCM, starting at 5:15 p.m.) (other marathons include "Ace...

It's not really a dance video, but it's hilarious, and not only did LAist consider it a nominee, but the people came out en masse to help it win the contest in what can only be called a landslide.

Didn't get everything you wanted over the holidays? We're having two contests with prizes that might tickle your fancy. First, we'd like to give you Goddess Gwen in the flesh, but we are keeping her for ourselves. Instead, we are giving away an entire bag full of Gwen goods - everything pictured above. For that contest, all you have to do is go to a site like YouTube, Google Video, or Buzznet and show...

Winding up his colorful trilogy of outrageously beautiful volumes of photographs, famed artist David LaChapelle will be signing "Heaven and Hell" tonight at the Taschen Store in Beverly Hills. In a series that started a decade ago with "LaChapelle Land" and improved with "Hotel LaChapelle" (1999), David wraps it up with a collection of images that contains nearly double the number of the previous two volumes. LaChapelle, known for his eye-popping color and over-the-top...

LAist has had a great year and we've tried to share some of that with you. We've given away box seats to some Hollywood Bowl shows that included picnic baskets and free parking, we've given away tickets to Vegoose, the Dixie Chicks, and we even got a bunch of people into that secret Red Hot Chili Peppers gig... and those were only some of our contests. Today we are giving away a super cool...

We've got a bunch of contests that we're rolling out. The first one is for a gift bag that we're seriously not worthy to offer.

Tonight - Tuesday Lakers @ Rockets (CBS2, 5:30 p.m.) If the NBA consolidated these two they'd be the Lockets which sounds better anyway, what the hell is a Laker, some kind of ship? "Friday Night Lights" (NBC, 8:00 p.m.) Cheerleader competition becomes the focus for the town as well as additional male viewers of the show. "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: 40th Anniversary" (ABC, 8:00 p.m.) I'm a mean one, so you'd...

Gwen might be an Orange County girl -- as she proudly states in her new CD "The Sweet Escape" -- but we were under the impression that she had love for the City of Angels, a place she resided (Los Feliz whoot whoot) for many years, until she met that pretty boy from Bush. But we guess we were, like, totally wrong. The skinny blonde released her tour dates recently, and we see that...
