The latest victims in illegal metal scrapping are two fire hydrants in Glendale, according to the Daily News. Now, that's not a very good thing at all if a fire were to happen nearby. "If customers see anyone removing parts -- or the entire fire hydrant -- and they aren't using official city vehicles, we are asking them to call the police department," Peter Kavounas of Glendale Water & Power said to the paper.......

After weeks and weeks of testimony, the verdict is finally in for Juan Alvarez, the man who left his SUV on Metrolink train tracks in Glendale causing one train to derail and crash into another train back in January 2005. 11 people were killed and another 180 were injured. Alvarez said he was only trying to kill himself and that the resulting train crash was not intended. The jury didn't think so and found him......

LAistory is a series that takes us on a journey to what came before to help us understand where we are today. So far we've been to Val Verde (the "Black Palm Springs"), Thelma Todd's Roadside Cafe, a house in Beverly Hills, Echo Park's Bonnie Brae House, and the long-gone Marineland of the Pacific. Now we're taking to the skies and flying back to the Golden Era of air travel right here in Glendale.........

A chase that began at around 7 p.m. in Glendale ended with a crash right on the world-famous Walk of Fame at Hollywood and Vine last night. The police were in pursuit of 39-year-old Grigor Grigoryan, who is considered a "person of interest" in the investigation of his 36-year-old girlfriend's murder. Her body was found in a home on the 600 block of West Stocker Street in Glendale Friday afternoon, and authorities deemed the scene......

There is a damn good line up of bands happening this Friday night over in Glendale at The Scene at 9:00 p.m. And despite the Valley club's interesting change in direction with membership, this Friday is still the spirit of the old scene as it is the second-to-last show booked under old management. Friday's line up includes Death to Anders, Fol Chen, Solar Powered People and Layer with the Squaregirls will be DJing between sets.......

On a recent visit to the official website for The Scene in Glendale, I was a bit miffed to find that the club is now offering memberships. For a nominal fee ($99-$350) you can enjoy privileges ranging from free entry for you and a guest to the very enticing 20% off of all drinks. As extra incentive, membership also comes with… well, actually that’s pretty much it. Unless you consider a discount rate when......

Love it or hate it, Rick Caruso's $400 million, 15.5 acre Super-Grove opened this morning in Glendale. The open-aired shopping mecca boasts over 75 retail stores, a wide variety of eateries, and one heck of a fountain. It's the perfect place to spend an afternoon people-watching, listening to piped-in Sinatra and downing Beard Papa cream puffs, while secretly cursing Capitalism and referring to the retail monstrosity as "Genericana".......

A sex tape featuring late film icon Marilyn Monroe--on 16mm film--sold for $1.5 million to a NY businessman. Did you check out the Songkran fest yesterday in Thai Town? Did you ride the Red Line? Did you wonder why the hell the MTA only put in two ticket vending machines......

Photo by the seasonal blog, Creepy LA, via Flickr. For the second time this week, Glendale Police were faced with an alleged suspect shooting at them. Last night, they were involved in a three-hour standoff near the entrance of Forest Lawn with a man suspected of a murder earlier last night in Los Angeles outside a bowling alley. At the time of arrival, though, it was not known that the murder and the man......

At 6 a.m. on January 26, 2005, a man sat his Jeep Grand Cherokee across Metrolink train tracks near Chevy Chase Drive in Glendale in an attempt to, what he and his family members claim, commit suicide. Juan Manuel Alvarez, then 26, abandoned his vehicle before a southbound train hit it, derailing and colliding with a northbound train. We always hear about Improv Everywhere pulling crazy stunts off in New York City, like five-minutes of frozen time at Grand Central or no-pants on the subway. Well, after a small improvised pillow fight at the Glendale mall (video below), the new LA Chapter of the collaborative pulled off their first major mission: a spontaneous musical at Baldwin Hills Mall, starting off with the Hot Dog On A Stick girl. Eventually a cast of......

Burbank residents who live in the vicinity of Bob Hope Airport may soon see relief in the nighttime hours from cargo plane flight activity if a proposed mandatory curfew is endorsed by the public and approved by the FAA. This month, airport officials will consider the curfew that will prohibit air traffic between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. In turn, the airport could potentially save millions in operation costs. In 2002, the second phase of......

I fell in love with Porto's Bakery long before I ever actually visited one of their Glendale or Burbank bakeries -- they've always been our go-to place for catered meals at work. Jobing.com: Employment for Bad Spellers | Photo by Andy Sternberg for LAist This billboard has been bugging me for months and it's all over LA. WTF is "Jobing?!?"
