Get Out: Pier Plaza 4th Continues, Sawdust Festival, Sharks at the Aquarium, Bigfoot's Sunday Session

Don't stop till you get enough, right? Head down to the Huntington Beach Pier for the third and final day of the Pier Plaza Festival and enjoy crafts, food and surf rock music, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

They're just getting underway right now, but Food Forward, in partnership with SOVA & CSUN Hillel, will be out picking fruit at CSUN's Orange Orchard (Nordhoff/Lindley) until 4 this afternoon, and chances are they can still use a hand--well, your hands, actually. Get involved in this "Big Pick" event--the largest to date and open to volunteers of all ages--the harvested fruit is all donated to help feed the hungry. Get Out: Celebrate Chinatown, Poketo Pop Up Shop, Create:Fixate's 'Build,' Art Opening, Fundraiser Sale

Tonight from 7-11 p.m. head down to Chinatown to enjoy a free festival commemorating the anniversary of the establishment of “New Chinatown,” built when the original Chinatown enclave was taken over for the construction of Union Station. Actress April Hong and Comedian Ewan Chung will emcee the event featuring 40’s and 50’s era music and dancing to the music of the Pat Longo Big Band with vocalists Nancy Osborne and John-Eric Booth. There will also be casino games benefiting the Chinatown Service Center Youth Center, Chinese acrobats and martial artists, and a video presentation of historic photos. The event will also feature a salute to WWII Chinese American war veterans. It's free to check out, and a fun way to get out and see an important LA community and honor its history.

600 local artists using 25,000 sticks of pastel chalk are turning the sidewalks of Pasadena into works of colorful art. This is the second and final day of the Chalk Festival...and when it's all over tonight, they're going to turn on the hoses and wash the artwork away. See it while you can! Head over to Paseo Colorado between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Free.

The 39th annual LA PRIDE Parade is expected to gather over 400,000 people this year and will feature over 125 parade entries including floats, bands, performances, marching community advocacy groups, smiling seniors, proud parents, out teachers and convertibles with honored guests. The parade will run west along Santa Monica Blvd. from Crescent Heights to Robertson Blvds in WeHo, starting at 11 a.m.

The Jazz Reggae Festival at UCLA is a two-day annual music festival held every Memorial Day Weekend that celebrates music, art, culture and diversity, while hosting some of the world's most prominent musicians in Jazz, Hip Hop, Soul, and Reggae. This year they have a new theme: "A Culture of Change." With this in mind, the festival will be implementing more initiatives to make our show zero-waste as well as environmentally and socially sustainable. Today's lineup includes: Erykah Badu, De La Soul, Leela James, People Under the Stairs, Ayo, Nino Moschella, Mateo, NK Band, Kalil Wilson and the Berkeley Everret Sextet, and Louder Than Words.

So apparently this is the "Best Festival Experience in Southern California During Memorial Day Weekend." Granted, it's one of the only ones...but anyhow...it does look good. Topanga Days is a 3 day Fair & Fund Raiser celebrating Music & The Arts, held on the Topanga Community Club grounds (1440 North Topanga Canyon Blvd), and runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, tomorrow, and Monday. This year's theme is "Topanga Roots Evolution." You can enjoy traditional festival games, eats, and attractions, and see some music (tonight's headliner is Blood, Sweat & Tears).

Tattered Fragments of the Map is a curatorial project materializing in multiple forms: an exhibition, a publication and a series of public programs. This project reveals mapping itself as a generative process of knowledge creation, a liberatory method for re-imagining and re-imaging our world, its built and natural environments, and the relationship between space and place. The exhibition kicks off tonight from 7-10 at g727 in Downtown, and the show runs until June 30th.

It's time for another installment of BoredLA’s art and music show, and they tell us that this time around, things are better than ever. More art, more music, more activities, and food! It's the opening of the I Like You(r Art) group exhibition featuring over a dozen talented local artists including David Phillips, Krystle Swaving, Chen Luoshu, Alex Pandel, Hannah Kim, Jonathan Bussiere of Hips and Hair, Mike Galasso, Cecelia Webber, Bryan Carberry, Katie Raphael, Ben Koffman, Alex Alkana, and more tba. Tien Nguyen, Alex Alkana, Poor Friends, and DJ IVANPARTY will entertain through out the night on the stage in the Ragazzi Room. Next door at Bacaro LA, they will be offering a special menu for the night featuring cheap food and cheap wine. It's all going down tonight, 7-11 p.m., and all it costs you is a $1 donation, which goes to keeping the BoredLA site running.

Single tickets for the 2009 summer season at the Hollywood Bowl go on sale today for their 88th season. The season spans 14 weeks, from June to September, and includes presentations of classical music by the Los Angeles Philharmonic; popular weekend shows with the Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra; jazz; world music; pop; rock; and special presentations, as well as family and educational programs. Head to the Box Office in the Bowl's center plaza (hey, you can run the stairs while you're there!) or, if you're a glutton for punishment, use TicketMaster. The Box Office is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through May 10th, then Noon-6 p.m. beginning May 12th (Tu-Sun only).

LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy

This week is a great one for comedy, as a lot of heavy hitters are performing all over town. the Comedy Central Stage is getting a lot of love, as is Largo with back to back nights featuring Aziz Ansari and Sarah Silverman. Today is the second day of the LA Weekly's LA Weekend. LAist is hungering for this afternoon's Carnivore panel, featuring Mark Peel of Campanile, Octavio Becerra of Palate Food + Wine, Vinny Dotolo from Animal and Susan Feniger of Street in a discussion moderated by Jonathan Gold. But there are other tasty non-food events today, all free, including film screenings, author panel discussions, and musical performances. The Weekly has all the deets, natch.

LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy

It's 4.20! Smoke all your smokes and whatnot. You'd think I'd hype The Smokes show at UCB tonight at 7, or the 4.20 Crash Test show or SOMETHING, but nope. Smoke free since 1983, playas! Anywho, UCB has so much else going on this week you can't believe it. The great shows like CDR are killing it this week and Nick Kroll as Fabrice Fabrice is a must, even if you have to hit the standby line. Largo drops off this week, but looks very promising in the near future. Email Farley if you want to spread your own love. Eww.

Spend you Sunday celebrating Earth Day and our oceans at Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, where today from 11-6 they will have displays, presentations and activities focusing on environmental issues for which Heal the Bay is advocating will give visitors a range of areas for involvement. If you want to help pitch in, you can sign up for a beach cleanup between noon-3:30 and gain free admission to the museum for your participation. Special exhibits inside the Aquarium will highlight the environmental problems of marine debris. Artist “Deb Ris,” will display samples of her work, composed of trash found in the marine environment, along with many more special presentations and opportunities to interact with marine life. Lots of other kid-friendly activities, too.

The Mike Birbiglia one man show hits Largo on Tuesday and Wednesday, but UCB has CDR Sketch with Casey Wilson on Tuesday night too, so choose wisely. Help out the Midnight Mission on Sunday, see the USS Rock N' Roll at the Westside Eclectic, or spend tonight at UCB with Flap Jackson and Sentimental Lady, then stick around for the Dirty Laundry show at 11. As always hit me up if you want to hype a show you know about.

Chances are, if you were planning on doing something for Easter, your plans are nailed down already, underway, done, or family-only. Hey, it happens. Unfortunately, because it's Easter, there's a lot fewer events taking place today besides the usual mix of museum exhibits, bands playing, and plays running. If you're looking to get in on something hippity-hoppity, may we suggest the LA Zoo's Big Bunny's Spring Fling, grabbing at bite at Royal/T and seeing what they have up their sleeves for Easter, pigging out at the Biltmore (Easter Brunch 11:30-2:30), or taking a stroll around Descanso Gardens. Of course, you can always wait outside your favorite grocery or drug store for the Peeps and Cadbury Eggs to get marked down to 50% off and celebrate that way...

From Noon to 5 today, head down to Olvera Street with your dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, goats, and hamsters for the 79th annual Blessing of the Animals. Cardinal Roger M. Mahony will preside over this ceremony steeped in tradition, that includes a procession on Olvera Street commencing at 2:00 p.m. followed by the blessing. Want to be a know-it-all? How about this: The centuries-old ceremony of Blessing of the Animals dates back to the fourth century when San Antonio de Abad was recognized as the Patron Saint of the Animal Kingdom. In those days, the people would take their animals to the priest to receive a blessing and ask for fertility and health. Today, Blessing of the Animals is held in grateful recognition of the tremendous services given to the human race by animals. Oh, and you don't have to have a pet in tow to have fun!

This is the last weekend to catch them at their current set-up at the CitiBank at 2450 Glendale Blvd.(cross st. Silverlake Blvd). Head over between 9-5 today to score some great goodies and support local business. They promise to reveal their new location next week, and will be offering "Better hours and a much BIGGER location that is in the HEART of Silver Lake."

From 1-5 this afternoon head over to SaMo for the 3rd Annual Santa Monica Airport Art Walk. Everyone is invited to meet some of the many artists who make the Santa Monica Airport a center of creativity. Artists participating in the walk this year include noted local artists such as Fielden Harper, Jodi Fuchs, Michelle Oppenheimer, and Greg Gioiosa along with dozens of other artists. All along Airport Avenue between Bundy Drive and 23rd Street you’ll find an array of private artist studios, the Santa Monica College Ceramic Studios and Art Mentor Program, and the Ruskin Group Theatre, all of which will be open to visitors during the Art Walk providing a unique opportunity to view the current work of over 60 local artists and explore the spaces where their imaginations take flight.

And to prove that, over 60 historical organizations--from the Art Deco Society to the Venice Historical Society--will gather together today at Heritage Square.
