DVD Tuesday: Buy <em>The Wrestler</em>

Though it was almost criminally ignored by the Academy, The Wrestler was among the very finest movies released in theaters last year. Since it made only a little more than $26M at the box office, there are still plenty of people who haven't seen it. To those people I say: buy, buy, buy this DVD! It features a staggering performance by Mickey Rourke and a very underrated turn by the increasingly compelling Marisa Tomei. Ron Moore is my kind of storyteller so naturally I'm onboard with Caprica. I mean, who doesn't love Eric Stoltz? Ron Howard never seems to take any great chances, but he does consistently deliver solid pieces of entertainment. He gets pilloried for it by many, but being this good and this popular is no easy feat.

Since the weekend following Thanksgiving is an historically slow one for business, the major studios were hesitant to release anything on Friday. As a result, the witless ($5.1M/$165.6M) which are both certified hits.

The first iteration of (and you should!), expect to be blown away by this relatively unknown actor. Frost/Nixon is probably going to be a very well-made, decently compelling but not terribly complex film about the thrilling Richard Nixon. Basically, your ordinary, every day Ron Howard film.

If you're gonna see a movie in this town, there really is no better place to do that than at Mann's Chinese Theater. They've had a digital projection system for awhile now, the sound is great, and the experience is just incomparable. Now we know people will wave their Arclights and their The Bridges in our face, but to them we say, "Bite us."
