Michael Jackson's Funeral is Tonight, City Expects Traffic & Delays

After going to court yesterday to determine how tonight's funeral will be paid for, Michael Jackson is scheduled to be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale around 7 p.m. tonight. For locals on the tail end of rush hour, there will be street closures in effect (map below). No specific time for closures has been listed by the city of Glendale on its website, but expect them to begin in the afternoon, lasting into the evening.

Jackson's 51st Birthday Gift His Eternal Resting Place

Is he frozen? Destined to rest at Neverland Ranch? Bound for Vegas? Headed home to Gary, Indiana? No one has known for sure what the status of the burial of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has been since his death, but now Jackson's father Joe has revealed his son "will be buried Aug. 29, what would have been his 51st birthday, at Forest Lawn Cemetery," according to the LA Times.

MIchael Jackson Forest Lawn Gravesite Listed as Temporary

Although the Jackson family held a private memorial service this morning at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Toluca Lake/Universal City area, Michael Jackson's death certificate--obtained by TMZ--shows that the location is listed as temporary. The Celebrity Gossip website says the final burial ground will be somewhere else, but that location is unknown. After today's public service at the Staples Center, the family headed to the Beverly Wilshire hotel for lunch before heading back to the family home in Encino.

In plans that were revealed only this morning, Michael Jackson's casket journeyed from the private family service held around 8:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills to inside the Staples Center where it was put on display during the public memorial.

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton revealed this morning during a live radio interview that despite days of plans indicating otherwise, the coffin containing the body of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson will be taken from the earlier private funeral at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills to the Staples Center, where it will be on stage during the memorial event.*

Michael Jackson Street Closures Round-Up: From the Valley to Downtown

Today might be a little chaotic, but remember this: what usually would take months in planning was done in only a few days. Yesterday, various agencies alerted the media and public of closures to streets, freeway on and off-ramps and public transit service changes. Here's what you need to know...

A private funeral for Michael Jackson will be held tomorrow morning at Forest Lawn cemetery, according to sources with the LA Times. "Sources said some family members will start at the Jackson family compound in Encino and go to the cemetery before going to Staples. It's unclear whether there will be a procession from the cemetery to Staples, though sources said law enforcement is against such an idea," the paper reported.

OL' BLUE EYES

Last night's powerful rains beat down on Los Angeles, and Southern California in general, with a vengeance. Widespread power outages, mudslides, and flooded roads are just some of the consequences of the overnight downpour.

As of 12:30 a.m. tonight, 10,300 LADWP customers went without power throughout the city, primarily due to downed wires from the weather, according to a press release from the city agency.

Yesterday, there were not many details about a "freshly-shot" body found at the Glendale-based Forest Lawn cemetery (as opposed to the Griffith Park location). As more details came out, we learn the shooting was likely gang related and that the murder happened within the city limits of Los Angeles, not Glendale.

CBS2 News is reporting a recently shot body of a Hispanic male was found in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale around 1:30 p,m. today.

It was unclear if he was murdered in the cemetery or if his body was dumped there after he was shot, she said.

I “worked” the morning shift today. Reporting into Gate 2 at Warner Brothers before heading to Gate 7 on Forest Lawn. Yesterday afternoon, Gate 7 was dead, but this morning it’s bustling. Lots of traffic coming in and out of the gate. Again, lots of honking and thumbs ups from the passing cars. Again, I’m marching with a lot of writers who work on the Warner Brothers lot. They have ridiculous energy for this...

Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills has a variety of gardens, stained glass and art exhibits that attract a lot of attention. However, the Court of Liberty and the Birth of Liberty Mosaic don't hold much interest for me as a photographer. I am touched by the juxtoposition of beauty and sorrow in the marble statuary. I find peace in the serene faces, and I marvel at the way people are always able to...

Some more updates to the Mudslide that happened earlier today on Forest Lawn Drive. An estimated 27,000 DWP customers lost power due to rain and lightning. And the rain only seemed to hit hard in select parts of the Los Angeles area. And because of all this rain dumping crazy stuff into the ocean, stay away for at least three days. "Why am I consistently one of the only white people riding the bus...

Today at 12:43 p.m., a mud slide occurred at 6711 Forest Lawn Dr, just West of Barham Blvd., trapping 6 to 7 vehicles according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. No injuries are reported and Forest Lawn Drive is closed between Barham and Zoo Drive. It is unknown at this time if the cars were parked or driving.

This week, we ask LACityNerd some more technical questions on biking the LA River, money, art, cops and getting evicted. If you missed the Nerd last time, here is Part I. When can we realistically bike commute via the LA River Trail from the Valley to Downtown LA? The LA River trail may never connect completely from the Valley to Downtown - not until the hurtles of Warner Bros., CBS, and Universal Studios are...
