Let’s assume you’re a reasonably intelligent person who also has HBO. It would be easy to assume, then (since you are reasonably intelligent) that at 10 o’clock tonight you will be watching Flight of the Conchords on your HBO-enabled viewing box of choice. Again, seems reasonable enough.
Looking for a reason to laugh nowadays? You've gotta check out the second season premiere of HBO's Flight of the Conchords tomorrow at 10pm.
A lot of programs return to or make their premiere on premium cable this Sunday including: "Big Love", "The L Word", "The United States of Tara", and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl". What we most eagerly anticipate is the season premiere of "Flight of the Conchords". The pair of musicians and their hapless manager, all hailing from New Zealand, might not have made a second season due to low viewership but their cult like following gave us one more. So enjoy every episode like a smooth New Zealand Merlot, savor it, because this might be their last run, on HBO at least.
If you haven't caught a show at Largo at the Coronet yet, now might be a good time. Their recently posted, insanely good schedule for the next three months includes performers such as Randy Newman, Loudon Wainwright III, Joan as Police Woman, Maya Rudolph & Fred Armisen, Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Janeane Garofalo, Jon Brion, The Ditty Bops, Colin Hay, The Watkins Family Hour feat. Fiona Apple & Dan Wilson, Greg Proops and Flight of the Conchords.
As LAist announced yesterday, rumors have been swirling that the Flight of the Conchords will be joining Jon Brion during one of his Largo at the Coronet shows tonight. Today's message on the Largo phone line confirmed that Brion's first show at 8:30 p.m. will also feature "a couple of crazy bastards from New Zealand." Some tickets will be available for $30 cash at the door, and those wanting a confirmed seat should probably arrive when the ticket booth opens at 7:15 p.m. Should be a great night, and those who have never seen a Brion show (and those who have, for that matter) will be in for a treat.
There's what looks to be a great issue of Under the Radar magazine coming out the first week of July. The Decemberists, Spoon, R.E.M., Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Jarvis Cocker, The Flaming Lips, Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine, Moby, Bright Eyes and others will be exploring the 2008 presidential election. Other bands appearing in photos holding protest signs include British Sea Power, The Dresden Dolls, Supergrass, Built to Spill, Elbow and more.
Rumor has it, according to one post on the Fairfax Avenue, word on the street is that the Flight of the Conchords may open for Jon Brion tomorrow night at Largo at the Coronet. Largo is known for surprise guests, so this rumor is not too far fetched. Officially, Flight is confirmed for the Greg Proops Chat show in July, so that's good. The The Watkins Family Hour (review) and Glen Phillips play the space tonight.
Flight of the Conchords hit Venice back in April, showing off their sexy skating skills for all the "Ladies of the World." And hey, there's no better place than Los Angeles to find all those worldly ladies -- this is one of the most diverse cities out there.

After performing in a number small venues last year (Largo, Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre, etc .) the Flight of the Conchords made their triumphant return to Los Angeles this week during a sold-out show at the El Rey Theatre on July 11. The growing popularity of the group was apparent in the weeks leading up to the gig, during which people on Craigslist were offering upwards of $300 for a pair of tickets. On...
I first encountered Flight of the Conchords when they opened for Jon Brion at Largo in March 2006. The group, which is comprised of Jemaine Clement (perhaps best known in the U.S. for his Outback Steakhouse commercials) and Bret McKenzie, introduced themselves as “New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk parody duo.” Their folk-comedy ditties/rap battles endeared them to the audience—and even made a fan out of Brion who stated at the beginning of his...
