Questions Still Loom in Death of 25-Year-Old Killed in Crash with LAPD Cruiser

Last week Thursday, Devin Petelski was driving in Venice when her car and an LAPD vehicle collided. She and the two officers were sent to the hospital where she died two days later. The officer driving the car suffered a fractured hand and lacerations to his elbow while the other officer was treated for abrasions and general pain.

Two Firefighters Killed in Station Fire

Two Los Angeles County firefighters have been killed near Mount Gleason in the Angeles National Forest just south of Acton. Their vehicle went over the edge of the mountainside road amid intense fire activity around 2:30pm, according to LA County Deputy Fire Chief Mike Bryant at an 8:00 pm news conference.

40-year-old Donald Barrett was walking across the street when he was fatally struck and dragged by a Metro bus around 850 feet down two streets in Venice yesterday afternoon. "There does not appear to be any evidence of a crime and there are no charges pending at this time," explained the LAPD in a news release today. "The driver of the bus was transported to a local hospital for treatment of an undisclosed medical condition."

An accident involving a number of vehicles has left at least one person dead and several others injured. Shortly before 4 p.m., the LA Fire Department responded to the crash on the westbound 10 Freeway at Overland Avenue. As of 4:30, it was unknown how many people were injured, but d'Lisa Davies did confirm one fatality. She said some people were ejected from their cars and at least one car rolled over. A SigAlert, which could last up to two hours, has been issued. UPDATE: 3 women were injured and another woman, approximately around 65 years old, died.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is reporting a pedestrian fatality after a collision with the train at Hubbard St. and San Fernando Rd. in the Pacoima neighborhood of Northeast Vallely. Further details are coming.

*UPDATE 5:01: One firefighter was killed and another critically injured after reporting to the scene of an explosion that blew manhole covers off the ground and damaged part of a building in Westchester.

Update: The westbound 118 freeway should be open by now.


It was 11:35 p.m. last night when 911 calls started coming into dispatchers. California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Fire Department headed out to the westbound 118 Freeway east of Reseda Blvd. in Porter Ranch to find a tractor-trailer truck on fire and two other vehicles involved.
