Video: Aerialist Falls During Holiday Show at Beverly Center

Onlookers gathered on multiple levels of the Beverly Center to watch the holiday-themed acrobatics of "Hunky Santa and the Candy Cane Girls," yesterday witnessed a 26-year-old female performer take a nasty fall from her suspended metal hoop. The aerialist "managed to turn herself right side up before falling into a video projection cube and injuring her wrist and pelvis. She was not wearing a harness, and there were no nets to break her fall," according to LA Now.

Another Dies at Point Fermin Park

In what appears to be an accident, a 24-year-old man died yesterday evening after he apparently climbed the fence near the cliffs of Point Fermin Park in San Pedro. The fence is there for a very good reason, but numerous people have fallen, often to their death, at the park over the years. Fire department rescues at this location almost seem routine.

With all the buzz surrounding restaurant newcomers Anisette and Comme Ca, another elegant French bistro has quietly slipped under the foodie radar: The Hall at Palihouse. This serene, casual, but sophisticated space within the "extended-stay" hotel has recently changed chefs: Anisette's former chef de cuisine, Brendan Collins, has taken over from Stephanie O'Mary, and in doing so has invigorated the traditional French bistro menu with more exotic Mediterranean influences.

The LAFD is reporting a fatal fall at the Topanga Plaza shopping mall, located at 6600 Topanga Boulevard in Canoga Park. According to the LAFD's Brian Humphrey: "One person [is] dead at scene of (long?) fall at shopping mall." No further details are currently available. The mall is operated by the Westfield chain of malls, and opens for business on Sundays at 11 a.m. It is not clear if the incident took place before or during shopping hours or at what location in the mall the fall happened.

There are a lot of falls over at and near Point Fermin and the Sunken City, whether it is accidental or suicidal. The battle for safety precautions over natural views of the ocean can be a contentious one with the community. There comes a point where you can't stop people from killing themselves or just being stupid by climbing over the fence to get that "perfect shot," only to tumble down the cliff and now subject of a local TV news' helicopter shot.

Despite being considered as quirky nonsense, the mystery of freakish falls from the sky has become a regular occurrence over the years, and Los Angeles hasn't been exempt from such bizarre downpours and surreal showers.
