First Nova Express Cafe? Now Largo? The good news, however, is that Largo's alleged closing is about opening a new space on La Cienaga according to bulletin board threads on www.fairfax-avenue.com and the Ditty Bops' website.

If, like me, you were such a huge fan of Muppets and costumed creatures growing up that you're practically anti-CGI, you should head over to the Silent Movie Theater on March 18th for "Jim Henson's Commercials & Experiments"! The screening starts at 8pm and will feature rare clips, shorts and commercials from Jim Henson's studio archives, including experimental animation and "a 35mm print of Time Piece, an Academy Award nominated 8-minute masterpiece that showcases Henson’s talent for making music out of everyday sounds."

Tonight at 8pm: The Cinefamily Screening Series wraps up their stunt month with a rare screening of "The Stunt Man," and some special guests. From Cinefamily:
In filming The Stunt Man, the quintessential movie about Hollywood's invisible heroes, Richard Rush hired many of the top men in the field, making the set a virtual symposium of daredevil talents. We decided what better way to honor these daredevils than by reuniting as many of them as we can, to swap stories, answer questions, show clips of their greatest stunts, and generally have a good time. Then we're all gonna watch The Stunt Man together! Numerous stuntmen, including many who worked on the film will be in attendance. The list so far includes. but isn't limited to, Steve Railsback, Bobby Hoy, Tom Morga, Erick Cord, Walt Robles, Jim Winburn, Gary Kent; not to mention the director, Richard Rush. We dare you to come!Steve Railsback alone is reason to go, especially for those of you who think he only did Charles Manson and then disappeared. If you've never seen "The Stunt Man," you're in for a treat. While you're there, pick up Cinefamily's schedule and check out upcoming treats such as Russ Meyer films on Fridays in February.

Stores on Fairfax Avenue. Photo by Terry Stamatis. The first time I saw it over a year ago, I thought it was fluke, a coincidence, a mis-hap. But no, it is true, on Saturday mornings in the Fairfax District, Orthodox Jewish families en route to synagogue share the sidewalks with Gay couples walking hand-in-hand on their way to brunch. There are no contemptuous faces or grunts. Instead, they pass each other on the street,...
Down on Fairfax folks are excited about the LA late-night noshing institution Canter's Deli's upcoming 75th anniversary. This mainstay of mile-high smoked meat on rye is celebrating the big 7-5 by offering 75-cent corned beef sandwiches from 12 noon until midnight on Monday March 20th. While this is pretty exciting food-stuff, we're slightly more tickled to have discovered that Canter's is so in the mix with current trends that they have their very own MySpace page. (And now you know that this LAist isn't anywhere near hip because we couldn't think of anything hipper than "in the mix with current trends" to say.) In any event, we're guessing Canter's, that old geezer (who is "up for anything" so long as it's not the High Holy Days, according to their profile) is going to be pretty popular come Monday on their diamond anniversary; at last tally, they've got an impressive 1349 friends on their list. Are you one of them?
