Tonight In Rock: Built To Spill, Land of Talk, Fool's Gold, The Antlers

Tonight legendary Boise-based indie rock progenitors Built To Spill will be taking on a two-night stint at the Echoplex. Local afro-centric indie pop act Fool's Gold are poised to grace the Westfield Century City for this week's edition of KCRW's "Sounds Around Town." And, lastly, Brooklyn-bred indie rock trio the Antlers will be stopping by Origami Vinyl early in evening and then jetting over to the Bootleg Theatre to perform with none other than Toronto-based folk rock outfit Timber Timbre. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch female-fronted Québécois indie rock outfit Land of Talk. LAist favorites, local indie rockers Eulogies (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3) are slated to kick things off.

After a successful inaugural season that included The Afternoons, The Deadly Syndrome, The Parson Red Heads, Whispertown 2000, The Broken West, Le Switch, Radar Bros., The One AM Radio, Eulogies, Langhorne Slim, One Trick Pony, Local Natives, and Saint Motel, the family-friendly Kidrockers LA returns this Sunday to The Echo, hosted by comedians Matt Dwyer and Matt Braunger with music by The Damselles & the TC4 and Quazar & the Bamboozled.

Tonight In Rock: Stone Temple Pilots, Bill Callahan, Eulogies, Fitz and the Tantrums

Tonight San Diego-based alternative rockers Stone Temple Pilots will be performing for a sold-out crowd the House of Blues Sunset. Maryland-based singer-songwriter Bill Callahan is poised to headline the Troubadour with Bachelorette in tow. And, lastly, local retro 60s soul act Fitz and the Tantrums will be gracing Spaceland for this week's edition of Club NME. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to partake in a Benefit for the Pablove Foundation, established earlier this year to help fight childhood cancer. Pablo Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird Records' co-founder Jeff Castelaz, was a beautiful 6-year-old boy—wise beyond his years—who passed from this life last Saturday. He was battling with Wilm's Tumor, a form of cancer that most often strikes children. Local indie rockers Eulogies (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3), Bad Veins and Avi Buffalo (LAist Interview) are all slated to take stage in his honor.

Tonight In Rock: War, Fischerspooner, The Dears, Nomo

Tonight Long Beach-based funk troubadours War will be headlining the Greek Theatre. NY's own electroclash duo Fischerspooner are poised to grace the Avalon. And, lastly, Montreal-based indie rockers the Dears will be sharing the stage at the Echoplex with hometown heroes Great Northern and Eulogies (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3). But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to experience Ann Arbor's crown jewel, a relatively diminutive post-afrobeat outfit by the name of Nomo (LAist Review, #2). Swedish indie pop act Those Dancing Days are slated to kick things off.

Eulogies Frontman Peter Walker Talks About His New Album: Here Anonymous

Three years ago Peter Walker decided he was tired of the solo life and wanted to settle down...musically. He asked the musicians who were touring with him if they wanted something more permanent. They did and Eulogies was born. Last month, Eulogies released their promising sophomore disk, Here Anonymous, on Dangerbird Records. The album in question is full of the kind of pretty introspective pop that would make Ben Gibbard green with envy. Front man Peter Walker was kind enough to talk with us last night from his home in Los Angeles about his brand new album.

Since LAist's last report on Kidrockers, the monthly event entertaining families with live music and stand-up comedy, two more shows have taken place -- a Dangerbird Records presentation with The One AM Radio and Eulogies on April 26th at The Echo, and a special pre-Mother's Day Spa Retreat benefiting Kid's Play International with Le Switch and Afternoons on May 9th at Castle Ivar in Hollywood.

Last Sunday was the fourth edition of Kidrockers at The Echo (MySpace), hosted by comedians Matt Dwyer (MySpace) and Matt Braunger (MySpace), with performances by local indie bands Le Switch (MySpace) and Radar Bros (MySpace).

Tonight Rockford-based rockers Cheap Trick will be concluding their two-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Austin's own shredders the Sword (LAist Review) are coming through the Viper Room. Buffalo-based alternative rock outfit Mercury Rev will be performing at the El Rey Theatre with singer-songwriter Imaad Wasif (LAist Review). And, lastly, a handful of great local acts, like War Tapes, Seasons and Exitmusic, will be rocking out at Spaceland. But we strongly recommend that you head over to Space 15 Twenty for the Pablove Supreme Benefit. Not only are Eulogies (LAist Review, #2) playing, but Jimmy Tamborello (of the Postal Service & Dntel), Silversun Pickups and Daedelus are slated to DJ as well. Make it out for the great cause and great tunes!

The Hotel Cafe was a very nice place to be last Tuesday, as three Dangerbird acts took the red-lighted stage. Starting up at 8pm, and playing the most riveting set of the night, was "the better looking half" of the two-thirds Irish band La Rocca.

Tonight LA offers up a few relatively low-key options. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackson Browne will be playing at Amoeba at 6 PM for free. NY-based singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata (LAist Review) is slated to perform at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, the Hotel Cafe will be hosting a night with Danger Bird recording artists Eulogies (LAist Review), Ed Laurie and La Rocca (LAist Review). But we suggest paying the Troubadour a visit to see Indianapolis-based indie rock collective Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s. The eight-piece band will be premiering material from their forthcoming albums, Animal and Not Animal. It is our understanding that the notion of a two-disc release arose when the band and their label could not agree on which seventeen songs to release. So it will certainly be interesting to watch all of that play out.
