TV Junkie: 'V' Settles; George Lopez vs. Wanda Sykes

Did any of you tune in to the 2nd episode of "V" last night? We ask because viewership dropped by about 30% from the previous week. Don't get us wrong, we like the series but the drop in ratings made us think a bit more about the program. First of all, they're not really breaking any new ground here and that's fine since the majority of the targeted demographic don't remember the original series at all but we thought there would be more updating to the story other than contemporary babes, hunks, and computer graphics. We'll stay tuned for more but after this we wonder about the remake of the classic and dear-to-our-hearts "The Prisoner", which premieres this Sunday on AMC.

TV Junkie: Bad HBO, No Donut; The Streamys on Sat.; Gaffigan on Sun.

The Internet is abuzz today with promotion of HBO's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" to air this Sunday. Some writer's are pointing out that the show doesn't address any of the problems going on in Africa these days (AIDS, war, famine, rape, pillaging of natural resource) - instead it depicts a laid-back and idyllic place with only quaint soap opera-esque concerns.

PaleyFest 2009 Preview: Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Horrible, True Blood, Pushing Daisies and More

This year's annual William S. Paley Television Festival (also known as PaleyFest) will feature some LAist favorites. The up close and personal television event is sponsored by the Paley Center for Media, and begins April 10 at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome. Tickets go on sale to the public Sunday at 9 a.m. and they're likely to sell out within 24 hours, if not sooner. Most PaleyFest events treat fans to clips from each program (sometimes never-before-seen material) and include a panel discussion with questions from a moderator and the audience. In addition, each panel page on the PaleyFest website now includes an option for fans to submit questions prior to the event. This year's lineup is a strong one and it features: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 90210, True Blood, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Dollhouse, The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, Desperate Housewives, Unaired Pushing Daisies Episodes, Battlestar Galactica, The Hills, Big Love, Fringe and Swingtown.

TV Junkie: Pacitti Yanked from 'Idol'; Oscar Broadcast News; FOX Fridays

Controversial contestant Joanna Pacitti has finally been pulled from "American Idol" after it was revealed that she had friendships with multiple executives with "Idol" co-producer 19 Entertainment. For fans of the show who couldn't believe that she had made the cut after performing poorly and fumbling lyrics to several songs during the Hollywood rounds of auditions, it will be assumed that she had moved ahead due to these personal relationships and not merit.

This weekend marks the first ever inter-league meet-up of Derby Dolls here in LA, called Battle on the Bank and our own L.A. Derby Dolls are a big part of the fun and spectacle (last week we chatted with Micki Krimmel, aka Mickipedia, who is a "Baby Doll" on her way to joining the team). It's a banked track tournament featuring skaters from the L.A. Derby Dolls, Team Awesome, San Diego Derby Dolls, TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, Angel City Derby Girls, the OC Rollergirls and the Inland Empire Derby Divas. LAist Featured Photos contributor Michael Zampelli (aka rink_rat) grabbed these amazing shots of the action down at the Dollhouse.

Oh my god you guys, SHINY!!! There's breaking news coming from the Whedon-verse, and it spells nothing but J-O-Y. Your very favorite sci-fi auteur Joss Whedon will be returning to the small screen in 2008 with a new sci-fi drama called "Dollhouse," starring former "Buffy" star Eliza Dushku. There's already a fan website up called Dollverse (Joss's fans are as obsessive as they are web-savvy), and they're posting daily updates as the program develops....
