Found above Travis Barker's store, The Fast Life, at West 3rd and Crescent Heights is a new billboard. It's "in loving memory" of DJ AM, who died in August of a drug overdose. Last year, AM and Barker survived a plane crash that left the store's manager, Chris Baker, dead. A sidewalk memorial was set up in front of the store after that.

Last week the news of the death of Adam Goldstein, better known to many as DJ AM, shocked many people. Although authorities are still working to determine if his death was accidental or suicide, Goldstein apparently died of a drug overdose in his New York apartment, where drug paraphernalia was found. The 36-year-old DJ had recently finished working with Dr. Drew Pinsky on a television show about addiction, and "was said to have agreed to go back to rehab just hours before he died," according to the LAT's blog The Dish Rag.
Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, was found dead in New York City today around 2 p.m. local time. Apparently, he hadn't been seen for days until friends contacted authorities who broke down the door to his apartment. "Sources said drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment and cops are looking into whether it was an overdose," said the New York Post. Less than a year ago, Goldstein survived a plane crash that killed four people, and critically injured him and Blink-182's Travis Barker. He was also known for his relationships with Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore. His final tweet was a "New York, New York" lyric from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five: "New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems." [Update: Ironically, MTV had ordered a show where AM would help families stage interventions on their drug-addicted loved ones.]
Tonight there will be a tribute to the legendary Swedish pop group ABBA at the Hollywood Bowl. St. Albans-based English rockers the Zombies are poised to grace the Wiltern with none other than the Yardbirds, who are, of course, noted for starting the careers of three of rock's most famous guitarists: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Terry Lynn & John Hugo will be celebrating Jamaican music, performing songs from 2009's It Was Written at Loft Seven in Downtown. And, lastly, Austin-based instrumental rock outfit Explosions in the Sky (LAist Review, #2) will be performing at the Hollywood Palladium with local noise rockers No Age in tow. But we strongly suggest heading out to the Coliseum in Downtown to catch the final night of the 19th annual Electric Daisy Festival—the largest dance festival in North America, which could feature up to "200,000 dancing feet". LAist favorites Simian Mobile Disco are slated to headline.
According to MTV News, Adam DJ AM Goldstein has been released from the hospital and is back in Los Angeles. A spokesperson for DJ AM said, "While he is deeply saddened by the events, he is thankful for all of the love and support he has been receiving from fans and friends worldwide. We ask that you continue to respect his privacy as he rests and heals and mourns the loss of his friends." Travis Barker has had multiple surgeries and is still being treated at the Augusta Burn Center for the injuries he sustained in the plane crash last Saturday.
The Van Nuys-bound Learjet carrying DJ AM and former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker that crashed Saturday morning killing four others has sad twist. One of the victims, Chris Baker who was Barker's personal assistant, lost his brother last month. "Baker's death was the second tragedy to hit the family. Last month, Baker's 24-year-old brother, Rob, was killed in a motorcycle in Sacramento," the SacBee reported.
The crash in South Carolina that claimed the lives of four and critically injured DJ AM and Travis Barker may have been caused by a blown-out tire, according to National Transportation Safety Board investigators. The Van Nuys Airport bound learjet was flown by two pilots and carried two friends of the musicians (bodyguard Chris Baker and Charles Still), after a concert at the University of South Carolina. Both pilots and the two friends were killed. An ad hoc memorial was set up at Barker's Fast Life store on Crescent Heights.
At the corner of Crescent Heights and 3rd Street flowers and candles sit on the sidewalk in front of Fast Life. The store is owned by Travis Barker and was managed by Chris Baker, who died on Friday night in the plane crash that also claimed the life of Charles Still and the pilot and co-pilot. Fast Lane has become a gathering spot for friends and fans who are mourning those killed in the plane crash. Everyone is wishing the best for Adam 'DJ AM' Goldstein and Travis Barker who are still in the hospital in Georgia.
According to E! Online Travis Barker and DJ AM have been critically injured in a private plane crash in South Carolina. The plane, bound for Van Nuys, went off the runway and crashed in a nearby road. Four people died in the crash including pilot, Sarah Lemmon, co-pilot James Bland, and Travis Barker's assistant Chris Baker.
If you happened to find yourself pushing your way through throngs of vintage Nike-clad hipsters and fedora-and-vested ladies on the Strip Wednesday night then you were probably caught up in the hype surrounding the joint performance between world class DJ-AM and former Blink 182 drummer impresario Travis Barker. With three concerts this summer at the Roxy under the alias TRV$-AM, the unprecedented alliance between rock and dance has forced LA to its knees with a threatening new performance style. While the glamour of the show may have been highlighted by its sold out status, special guest appearances by Paul Wall and Warren G, and signed drumsticks thrown around the pit, this performance was nothing short of a challenge. Travis Barker has set out to prove that he is the preeminent drummer of the current music generation, and after Wednesday’s show it would be pretty difficult to argue otherwise.
The Super Bowl isn't just the center of the universe for the sports business, but also for anybody working at E! or People. Even TMZ had a giant mobile billboard just outside the stadium in Glendale -- probably reminding party-goers to send them any interesting photos.

You know you want to...so you may as well do it. Star Trek: The Tour has docked on the Queen Mary. Beam yourself up and get yourself to Long Beach to see exhibits from all five TV shows and each of the 10 movies, including Captain Kirk's chair. Bring your Vulcun ears and your Klingon-English dictionary and get into whatever character, or warp speed, you want.
After putting together an insane line up of bands, and secruing the incredible Exposition Park in Downtown Los Angeles for the venue, The Neighborhood Festival hooked up with LAist's favorite locally-based photo sharing community, Buzznet in a ticket giveaway bonanza.
