Tonight In Rock: Dios (Malos), The Happy Hollows, The Growlers, Seasons

Tonight local indie rockers the Happy Hollows (LAist Review, #2, #3) will be concluding their month-long residency at Spaceland with none other than the Pity Party (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6) in tow. Costa Mesa-based psych rockers the Growlers are poised to grace Origami Vinyl. And, lastly, Highland Park's own experimental rockers Seasons will be taking on the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Hotel Café to catch LAist favorites, San Pedro-based indie rock outfit Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview).

Tonight In Rock: Thrice, The Books, Real Estate, Freelance Whales

Tonight Irvine-bred heavy rock outfit Thrice will be headlining the Avalon with none other than Boston-based experimental rock act the Dear Hunter. NY's own experimental musical duo the Books (LAist Review) are poised to grace the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever. And, lastly, local indie rockers the Happy Hollows (LAist Review, #2, #3) will be taking on the penultimate night of their month-long residency at Spaceland with New Jersey-based psych-infused indie rockers Real Estate, One Trick Pony and Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview, Review, #2). But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch British indie pop quintet Fanfarlo (LAist Interview). LAist favorites, Queens' own indie pop buzz band Freelance Whales are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros, The Dodos, !!!, Jel

Tonight local indie rock buzz band Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' (LAist Review) will be performing at the Abbot Kinney Music Festival with Eskimo Hunter, the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2, #3) , Chief and Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview, Review). San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos are poised to headline the El Rey Theatre with Auckland's own indie pop outfit the Ruby Suns and London-bred experimental post-rock collective Sian Alice Group in tow. And, lastly, Sacramento-based dance-infused punk act Chk Chk Chk (!!!) will be headlining the Troubadour with none other than Houston-based psych-infused noise anomaly Indian Jewelry. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Knitting Factory in Hollywood to catch Berkeley-bred hip hop producer and rapper Jel and labelmate Odd Nosdam, who will be performing amongst many others for the 2nd Annual Longhair Illuminati Arts & Music Festival. LAist favorites Tweak Bird, Warpaint (LAist Review, #2, #3), Blank Blue and Slang Chickens are slated to take stage as well.

Tonight Nashville-based alternative rock supergroup the Dead Weather, which features Jack White of the White Stripes and Alison Mosshart of the Kills, will be headlining a sold-out show at the Roxy. Local rapper Busdriver (LAist Review, #2) is poised to flow in celebration of his forthcoming disc, 2009's Jhelli Beam, at Amoeba Records early on in the evening. And, lastly, San Franciscan psych rock sextet Sleepy Sun will be performing at the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock with Dios (Malos) and Slang Chickens. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Portland-based indie rock duo Viva Voce (LAist Review). Earlier this month, Buddyhead held its Christmas Party at the Hotel Cafe (MySpace) in Hollywood, with a lineup that included poet Ryan Ritchie, Brandon Intelligator and The Sheriffs (MySpace), Tsk Tsk (MySpace), Sid Brown (MySpace), Todd Congelliere ("MySpace), Dios Malos (MySpace), Claire Cronin (MySpace), Zander Schloss (MySpace), Nick Jago, Alain Johannes, Jason Simon, Sweethead (MySpace), and Aaron North.

Tonight New Orleans-based rapper Lil' Wayne is slated to headline the Gibson Amphitheatre. LA's own electronic genius Daedelus will be headlining the Echoplex and will be accompanied by Busdriver, the Mae Shi, Rumspringa and the Entrance Band. And although that stellar bill is all too enticing, we strongly recommend stopping by the Hotel Café for Buddyhead's Christmas Party. A trough full of celebrated local musicians, like QOTSA front man Josh Homme, Dead Meadow front man Jason Simon, Xu Xu Fang (LAist Review, #2, #3) and LAist favorites Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview), will preside over the unruly procession.

Tonight Latin/hip-hop outfit Ozomatli will be concluding a three-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Legendary punk rock outfit X are slated to headline Club Nokia. Hepcat will be asserting that ska is still in season at the El Rey Theatre. And, lastly, LAist favorites Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2) are putting on a holiday extravaganza at Relax Bar. But we strongly suggest that you head over to the Hollywood Forever Masonic Lodge. Okkervil River (LAist Review) front man Will Sheff will be performing with Swedish folk rocker the Tallest Man on Earth. If you caught wind of that egregious error within the last two hours, we are terribly sorry. The Buddyhead Christmas Party will take place tomorrow night!

Mondays in LA are always good for free shows. Tonight we've got Hawthorne-born, San Pedro-based Dios (Malos) at Spaceland. LA-based singer-songwriter Devon Williams and Anaheim's own power pop act Thee Makeout Party will be opening. Also, Death to Anders and Rademacher will be playing at the Echo. Tonight will conclude the month-long Monday Night Residency for both artists respectively. However, we suggest you shell out the money to catch Calexico and the Cave Singers at the Henry Fonda Theater. The latter, a Seattle-based folk-rock group, will surely compliment the Southwestern vibes of the former.

We gave a lucky pair of readers tickets to the Raconteurs' concert at the Greek. And although it's hard to pass on the Nashville-based supergroup and their fiery classic rock vibe (Brendan Benson is so dreamy!), there are other shows that will certainly sate your music craving. Hawthorne-born, San Pedro-based Dios (Malos) will be putting on their penultimate night of a month-long Monday Night Residency at Spaceland. To miss all five nights would be, quite simply, a shame. Daniel Brummel of the legendary pop-rock band Ozma will also be playing tonight, continuing his residency at Mr T's Bowl. But if you secured tickets far in advance to see Fleet Foxes, who are currently in high demand, then consider yourself a real winner. The El Rey Theatre will be at capacity both tonight and tomorrow night thanks to the sensational Seattle-based folk rockers. And those in attendance will surely be afforded mind-numbing three-part harmonies, as well as meticulous, utterly tranquil instrumentation.

Don’t be fooled. Just because, Dios(Malos) formerly Dios, soon to be We Are Dios, change their name more often than Prince, it doesn’t mean they are flaky about this music stuff. These guys are in it for the long-haul, calling themselves “lifers.” Veterans as it were of the Los Angeles music scene which is as beautiful, quick burning, and potentially dangerous as a homemade bottle rocket.

LA Weekly points us to some hot picks for tonight. About Girl in Coma: "Joan Jett knows a thing or two about rock & roll, and her latest protegees, Girl in a Coma, on her Blackheart label are one of the best and most interesting bands to come out of Texas in a long time," writes Falling James. They also play Alex's Bar in Long Beach tomorrow night. Also, Brian Wahl picks the "rare appearance" of Buddy Collette Big Band, who will be playing at the Terrace Court on the second level of Paseo Colorado at 8 p.m.

We jumped at the chance to see French rockers Phoenix (pictured, right) play The Wiltern last week, with opening acts La Rocca (pictured, left) and Dios Malos in tow. We saw Phoenix do a lively and energetic gig last year at the smaller venue Avalon, and knew they could deliver a solid show. Having last seen Beck at The Wiltern during the summer we knew that there'd be plenty of chances to get a...

Being as today is announcement day for this year's Oscar contenders, LAist thought it more than appropriate to recommend some film as today's entertainment.
