For the past couple of months, two trucks have teased us as they prepped for their debut. The Grilled Cheese Truck tempted us with delicious photos before launching with great success last week. Up next is the Buttermilk Truck, which launches next week Wednesday at The Brig in Venice. With a breakfast and a late-night menu, there's a handful of items that sound savory. For example: the Hawaiian Bread Breakfast Sliders have Portuguese sausage, sauteed onions and shoyu scrambled eggs on Hawaiian bread.

       

After several years working as a cook and executive chef for catering companies, Antonio Medina was ready to try something on his own. Seeing the the designer food truck trend, he and his wife took to some of their favorite food and hit the road.

We asked what designer food trucks you thought were missing from the streets of Los Angeles and you answered with some scrumptious and salivating ideas (along with a crazy sidebar debate!). Once again, workers along Wilshire Boulevard's Miracle Mile are witnessing an LAPD crackdown on the popular trucks that populate the area throughout lunchtime. One tipster, calling it a "raid," describes the scene in an e-mail:

"This has officially gotten out of control," tweeted Angeline Vuong, a Citysearch community manager, in reference to LAist's growing list of designer food trucks that Twitter. That list, which was updated yesterday, includes 23 trucks plus six more, like the grilled cheese truck, that are coming to Los Angeles streets soon (add in this fact: a 2006 estimate has the number of taco trucks at nearly 4,000).

Possibly adding fuel to the city's grease fire to get rid of illegal street vendors, a Center for Disease Control report released today tells of an April incident in which pot brownies bought from a bogus church fundraiser ended up in a preschool teacher's lounge sickening several teachers.

It only took four minutes for the LAPD to show up after The Green Truck's General Manager, Bobby Allen, pulled up to the curb on Wilshire for the lunch hour. The truck's health permit, although paid for, was not on display because the LA County Health Department was late in sending out bills and permits, explained Allen. But officers would not accept a note from the Health Department that should have excused the Green Truck from being cited and shut down. The truck can only open back up for business when they have proof they paid for the permit.

A handful of workers affected by the recent decrease in lunch options on the Miracle Mile have begun a petition to stop restaurants from calling city officials and police on "designer trucks" who park in the area. "We, the undersigned request that the brick and mortar restaurants in the area known as Miracle Mile cease and desist from any attempt to impede or hinder any mobile food preparation units or food trucks from operating in the area," the petition reads.
