Although most of us here at LAist are gourmet vegan chefs, a few of us (hi!) get our meals via drive-thru's not just daily, but several times a day.

1. Cajun Style Deep Fried Turkey from Miss Peaches. See above. It's off the hook. 2. A seemingly endless supply of ethnic restaurants in Los Angeles. This is such a great place to be a food blogger. 3. LAist, of course. 4. Del Taco, which is actually open today. 'Cause when you're cooking up something ridiculous for dinner, the last thing you want to worry about is making lunch. 5. My Fujifilm camera --...
Zuma Dogg was nice enough to post this video on Mayor Sam today which lays out a proposal that Jan Perry wants to inflict on the residents of South Central. Even though the councilwoman is ignorant in regards to the neighborhoods in her district, she does know that the people she represents are fat. They're so fat (and in her mind, ignorant) that she seems to want to protect them from themselves. It's her...
When I received my Thai One On assignment I was pretty pumped. Online Yelp reviews had unanimously agreed that Thailand Plaza has some of the best food and service around. Maybe that's why my experience at Thailand Plaza was such a disappointing one--my expectations going in were way too high. Not so say that everything about my Thailand Plaza dining experience was bad; parking was free with validation. Bonus! However aside from free parking,...
I love the fair. Absolutely love it. Why you ask? Well, it could be the awesome carnival rides. Or it could be the adorable animals. Or it could even be taking those "Olde Tyme" photographs with my friends (oh, you know that you love to dress up in Saloon outfits and pose with a shotgun!). But honestly, there is only one thing that revs me up for the fair. One thing that gets me dreaming...
There is a song in the early summer evening air and it’s a song of hipsters, small yummy tacos, and very, very strong drinks. I live a considerable distance from Malo, but it’s always a great place to meet up with people before going to the Greek. Malo is on Sunset Boulevard, the décor is dark, iron is very much in evidence, there are lots of curtains. Outside, the décor is minimal, with a...
Confession: We watch a lot of Food TV at our house. Recently we caught an episode of Bobby Flay's charmingly egomaniacal Throwdown where he challenged Mat Arnfield of New York's A Salt and Battery to a fish & chips battle, and our tastebuds began to tingle. To add insult to injury, a couple of days later, food-cutie Tyler Florence was making his Ultimate fish & chips, which made us think that if we were...
When we read New York Times' vacation on Ventura Blvd. last fall, we were happy the Valley got noticed with better geography skills than our local news outlets. And ever since La Di Da in West Hollywood closed (probably 'cause someone [see previous link] said its neighborhood was Miracle Mile), nothing in LA has been able to impress like Misti Chamkunthod's Brie mac and cheese (you can find Misti at The Backstage in Culver...
It seems as though foodies all over LA knew they were going to be outdone on Thanksgiving, which is why there is a noticeable lack of post-worthy food events happening in our fair city for the next few days. We suspect that after a day of loaded plates heaping with turkey prepared in a variety of fashions (we've heard talk of the infamous Deep Fried turkey, the old standby Roasted, and our own was done upright on a Spanek Roaster in a kettle grill) as well as plentiful servings of tasty side dishes (we break every healthy eating rule with a spoonful of those darn yams flavored with bourbon and topped with toasted marshmallows) and, let's not forget, pumpkin pie, well, even the most die-hard eater has to loosen their belt and take a break. It's extremely importatnt to rest up before braving those shopping crowds, too, right? In any event, we have no food-related events to share with you this fine November weekend, so we're challenging you--should you chose to accept--to create a food adventure of your own. The easiest would be to try a new place, or, for the slightly more daring, try a new kind of cuisine. Perhaps you'll want to do your adventuring on home territory, so why not do a dry run test drive of a new recipe--maybe something you were thinking about making for the next big eating holiday (which, as of today, is a mere 30 days away). Or indulge in a great bottle of wine and either head out to a restaurant with an accomodating corkage fee, or cook up your favorite meal at home. What are we doing, you ask? (You did ask, didn't you?) Well, we're taking two bites out of our personal sushi safari, and we're also gearing up to make some killer cookies to share with some friends. We're also wholly committed to researching holiday cocktails (we're a hands-on sort in this department). Naturally, we'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, eat, drink, nap, or shop at your own leisure this weekend. Fill you own bowl, we say! And don't be shy about letting us know what you've discovered.
"Spartan" is often synonymous with Vegan. After all, the goal of Vegan cuisine is to be as natural as possible, with a focus on wholesome, healthy food. It's in that spirit that we'll review California Vegan.
LAist loves those LA County Fair commercials with the tagline: "If there's any place that could use a county fair, it's LA." Ain't that the truth. Where else can you see the wonders of nature -- like deep fried Snickers -- first-hand?
LAist is going on a delicious spree around LA from A to Z. This week: A is All About Indian.
