After the amazing Redd Kross - Sonic Youth show at the Greek, we all headed over to an afterparty at El Cid. Thurston had asked punk legends Saccharine Trust to perform their classic album, Pagan Icons. The album thing was kind of a theme. If you want to know where bands like Nirvana got their inspiration from, in addition to Daydream Nation, you really need to add Pagan Icons and Born Innocent to your...
The double-header of Redd Kross and Sonic Youth completely blew my mind Friday night at the Greek. I had fantastic tickets (because my husband's online kung fu is the best), a photo pass (Thanks to the kind people at Nederlander Productions) and I was even on the list for the after-party (Thanks to Saccharine Trust and Dave Markey).

Sonic Youth continue to push the envelope. Two weeks ago they let it out that they're going to be working with Starbucks on a cd that will only be sold there, and today we learn that they are going to play a free gig at the Urban Outfitters on the Third Street Promenade. Is that where the Teenage Riots happen these days? Anyways, they're Sonic Youth and because their music has stayed pure throughout...
We had a pair of tickets and two posters for the Sonic Youth show at the Greek next month for a lucky winner who dared to either daydream or tell us a story. It will be a historic show as the band will play their entire Daydream Nation album. AS won with the story below that was chosen randomly. We understand that there are still a few tickets left for the July 20th show,...
Before Nirvana there was Sonic Youth and this summer there will be nirvana at The Greek when Sonic Youth plays their entire Daydream Nation album. If June 20th isn't marked on your calendar you probably shouldn't enter this contest. We have a pair of tickets for this show. We also have two posters for the winner as well. To enter tell us a story about Sonic Youth. Tell us what the show is going...
The Greek will be hosting some very impressive shows this year. First Sonic Youth announced that they will perform Daydream Nation at the venue up in Griffith Park, and then The Arcade Fire announced that they'll play on May 29th and 30th. On Saturday at 10am tickets for both Arcade Fire gigs will go on sale. So set your alarm clocks. The Arcade Fire are one of the most-welcome return attendees of Coachella in...
LAist gets and listens to a Lot of music. You can see the bands we like in the concerts that we review, the Tonight in Rock listings that we compile, and in the cds that we review. But we realize that we listen to way more music than we review so we figured we make a list once a week letting you know what we're into. week ending 3/31/07 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible...
It's not like Sonic Youth slacks. They always seem to be on the road, working on new projects, curating this, guest starring that. But this year LA will be spoiled with some special shows by Kim and Thurston and Lee and Steve.
Just a teeny bit shy of Daydream Nation's twenty-year anniversary in June, Sonic Youth is hitting up festivals this summer with their performance of their classic album, in its entirety. Their first stop is in Chicago on July 13th as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival in collaboration with ATP’s Don’t Look Back Series. From there, the foursome (Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, and Steve Shelley) will move onto dates in Berkeley, Los Angeles, Munich, Berlin and three shows in London.
